Associate Pastor Job Description
Emmaus Church is seeking a pastoral staff member to fill an open Associate Pastor position. The position is a compensated, full-time role. We expect this man to shepherd God's people prayerfully, according to The Word, and in concert with the Pastor and Elders. We aim to find the right fit for our ministry philosophy and church family and are willing to tailor weekly responsibilities to the right man’s giftings and skills.
We desire the associate pastor to equip the saints to do the work of the ministry. Key areas of need include working with youth, college-age individuals, and young families, filling the pulpit approximately once a month to once every six weeks, counseling, visitation, and general shepherding. We are prayerfully seeking a man trained and experienced in pastoral ministry who can hit the ground running.
Emmaus is an independent Bible church with a Mennonite heritage, founded in 1876 by eight Mennonite families seeking religious freedom. With firm convictions on the authority of Scripture, Emmaus has left the conservative Mennonite conference and continues to closely follow the Bible.
General requirements:
- Agree with our Articles of Faith as found on our website.
- Committed to shared responsibility and mutual accountability within a plurality of elders.
- Possess theological education, pastoral training, and experience.
- Desire to serve at Emmaus Church as long as the Lord allows.
Experience:
- General pastoral experience, preferably in a full-time paid position.
- Experience working with youth and/or young families.
- Experience overseeing ministry teams and leading God's people effectively.
Ministry Responsibilities (tailored to experience and gifting):
- Work with youth sponsors, provide training, set goals, and energize the youth ministry.
- Minister to young families through teaching and training.
- Oversee college/career age singles ministry.
- Preach approximately every 4-6 weeks on Sunday mornings.
- Teach Sunday School, Bible studies, small groups, and mid-week meetings as time permits.
- Provide Biblical counseling, including pre-marriage counseling, as needed.
