Responsibilities

  • Provide high‑quality instruction in music theory and performance for students that aligns with state and district standards.
  • Conduct daily rehearsals for secondary bands and choral ensembles.
  • Differentiate instruction for varying skill levels, ensuring that both beginners and advanced musicians are challenged.
  • Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Use both formative and summative assessments to measure student progress and adjust instruction based on data.
  • Establish and maintain a safe, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment that fosters student engagement.
  • Clearly communicate and consistently enforce school‑wide and classroom‑specific behavioral standards and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records for attendance, grading, incident reporting, and other paperwork in accordance with school policy and legal requirements.
  • Maintain proactive and professional communication with parents/guardians regarding student progress, attendance, and behavior.
  • Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), departmental meetings, and grade‑level team sessions to improve school‑wide outcomes.
  • Attend workshops, seminars, and training sessions to stay current on pedagogical trends, technology integration, and subject matter.
  • Regularly evaluate teaching effectiveness through peer observations and supervisor feedback.
  • Direct all seasonal concerts, community performances, parades, and pep bands.
  • Prepare students for regional/state competitions, festivals, and auditions.
  • Collaborate with the drama department for musical theater productions.
  • Manage the music budget, including the purchase and maintenance of instruments, sheet music, and uniforms.
  • Maintain an organized music library and inventory system.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, boosters, and administration regarding schedules and events.
