Special Education Teacher, Teacher Assistant/ Paraprofessional

Reports To: Keystone Administrators and Building Administrators in assigned buildings.
PurposeA Keystone high-incidence teacher collaborates with general‑education colleagues to support the instructional process for students with an Individual Education Plan (IEP). Responsibilities include instructing, assessing, and program planning for students with learning disabilities; monitoring and evaluating student progress and behavior; researching, obtaining, and providing instructional materials; and serving as a resource for students, parents, and district personnel. The teacher works within the general education setting to the greatest extent possible, and in the resource room when needed.
EssentialFunctions
- Assume responsibility for the management of appropriate programs for assigned students as dictated by the IEP.
- Collaborate with the district, Keystone, outside agencies, and families to provide services as outlined in the students’ IEP.
- Create an environment conducive to learning social‑emotional skills through the implementation of a positive behavior system.
- Supervise para‑educators (training, scheduling, supporting) to ensure performance standards are met.
- Maintain accurate records for assigned students, including IEPs, behavior plans, functional behavioral assessments, progress monitoring, charting, and reporting.
- Demonstrate methods required to perform classroom and subject‑specific assignments for effective, individualized instruction.
- Differentiated instruction (e.g., online curriculum, alternative curriculum, multimedia, assistive technology, modified content, multi‑sensory approaches) to meet individualized learning within established curriculum guidelines.
- Provide special services in environments dictated by the student IEPs—general‑education classroom (co‑teach), special‑education resource room, or other school and community settings.
- Attend required meetings, provide general supervision, and assume other duties required of all teachers.
- Report incidents and required documentation (e.g., fights, suspected child abuse, bullying, emergency safety interventions) as mandated by policy and law.
- Maintain professional license by attending staff development activities as required.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Apply assessment instruments and prepare accurate records.
- Operate standard office equipment and relevant computer software.
- Write professional documents and facilitate meetings.
- Work with numbers and solve problems.
Knowledge includes psychology, educational principles, policies and regulations, developmental stages, assessment techniques, and learning strategies.
Ability to schedule activities, gather and classify data, communicate with diverse groups, maintain confidentiality, meet deadlines, work as part of a team, and adapt to changing priorities.
Work EnvironmentPhysical demands: occasional lifting up to 20 lbs, moderate pushing/pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and fine finger dexterity. Job requires 80% sitting, 15% walking, and 5% standing in a generally hazard‑free environment.
Core Requirements- Experience:
Direct teaching experience, student‑teaching assignments, or related professional experience preferred. - Education:
Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree related to or in pursuit of the required teaching license. - Licenses:
Required testing certificates and licenses. - Driver’s license and evidence of insurability.
- Continuing education/training clearances.
