Summary
The Environmental, Health, & Safety (EH&S)
Manager is responsible for company-wide leadership to further build on a culture of safety throughout the company. This role will provide both strategic direction as well as the daily process management for the environmental, safety, & industrial hygiene aspects of the business. The EH&S Manager will develop and implement a comprehensive, sustainable EH&S program that fully engages, and is understood by, all of our employees to reach the outcome of zero injuries, zero vehicle accidents, and zero environmental non-conformances.
Essential Job Duties
- Maintains, updates, and improves an EH&S management system focused on employee involvement, risk reduction, injury prevention, vehicular accident prevention, environmental compliance, and continuous improvement for the manufacturing, field service, sales, and corporate functions of the business.
- Responsible for defining, tracking, managing, and reporting of EH&S KPIs.
- Mentors and coaches the organization as it relates to EH&S.
- Establishes a company wide audit program including periodic audits to check for compliance to the EH&S policies and procedures.
- Leads and facilitates the Corporate Safety Committee.
- Reviews work content to identify risks caused by physical, ergonomic, and behavioral factors and makes appropriate recommendations to reduce those risks.
- Leads the EH&S training activities to ensure the proper proficiency is obtained through the organization, not only maintaining compliance for various roles but elevating knowledge in identifying and reducing risks. This includes but is not limited to OSHA, MSHA, and State safety and environmental agencies.
- Performs thorough and timely investigations to determine root causes and corrective actions associated with near-miss incidents, accident investigations, environmental incidents, and compliance inspections with the responsible managers to prevent and eliminate future risks.
- Manages the EH&S Specialist and other company staff in maintaining EH&S permits, understanding regulations, and ensuring all environmental reports are submitted on time.
- Partners with the Fleet Manager to further develop the driving safety program, including the Smith System, and provides input on best-in-class safety improvement processes for fleet operations.
- Manages the industrial hygiene monitoring and works with the facilities to implement corrective measures accordingly as it relates to air sampling and noise level studies.
- Manages the EH&S Specialist to complete all 3rd party safety vendor relationships to ensure the company is compliant with their requirements.
- Ensure compliance and proper record-keeping with local, state, and federal laws, regulations, permits, and company-mandated policies and procedures in environmental, health, and safety.
- Responsible for the development of both direct and indirect reports, peers, and upper management through education on best practices including corporate, plant, and field operations staffing.
- Manages the activities of the Corporate EH&S Specialist and identifies future staffing needs.
- Other related duties or responsibilities as assigned.
Required Qualifications - Required qualifications to effectively perform the job. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered. (Additional requirements may be designated by position.)
- Bachelor's degree in industrial safety, industrial hygiene, environmental sciences or related field of study preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years of industrial EH&S management experience.
- Previous management of safety personnel a plus.
- Practical experience with exposure monitoring, use of hygiene equipment, and its calibration.
- Designing programs and procedures that control, eliminate and prevent injuries and environmental incidents.
- Professional certification is a plus (e.g., CSP, CIH).
- Background in managing safety in manufacturing, field service, and fleet operations a plus.
Knowledge,
Skills and Abilities

- Knowledge of environmental, health, and safety regulations including OSHA (Federal & State), MSHA, DOT, and EPA.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products - specifically Excel, Outlook Word, and PowerPoint.
- Critical thinker with exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work independently as well as concentrate on multiple tasks simultaneously.
