Works cooperatively with clinic and hospital departments, medical staff, employees, residents, and visitors.

Job Summary

The Pharmacy Technician is a healthcare professional who provides essential support to the Director of Pharmacy and licensed pharmacists in delivering pharmaceutical care and medication to patients. This role is integral to the efficient and compliant operation of the pharmacy department requiring a high degree of precision, accountability, and self‑discipline.

Job Qualifications

Experience:

  • Previous healthcare experience as a Pharmacy tech, 1-3 years preferred.

Education:

  • High School graduate or equivalent.

Certifications:

  • Kansas Board of Pharmacy Registration, required.
  • CPhT (PTCB) certification, required.
  • BLS certification required within 90 days of employment.

Job Responsibilities
  • Adhere to Mission, Vision and Values and Professional Code of Conduct.
  • Demonstrate good oral and written communication.
  • Attend and participate in departmental meetings / in‑services, quality improvement program, etc.
  • Ensure that look‑alike, sound‑alike medications are segregated in pharmacy.
  • Procure and distribute medication orders per physician request, pharmacist request, or prearranged work assignment according to established policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Replenish medications in automated dispensing cabinets, stock requisitions, emergency drug containers and floor stock areas accurately.
  • Deliver medications and supplies to patient care and ancillary areas accurately per established schedule.
  • Assist with the purchase of drugs and supplies in accordance with GPO, 340B and best practices.
    • Assists in ordering, receiving, unpacking, and storing medications and supplies in appropriate locations.
    • Assures that all orders are received, properly checked in and stored away.
    • Rotate stock to ensure use before expiration date.
    • Assists in monthly medication storage area inspections; identifies and replaces outdated and unusable drugs prior to drug expiration.
    • Manages drug shortages, outages and communicates to appropriate staff.
    • Understands and maintains the standards set by the Drug Supply Chain and Security Act (DSCSA)
    • Maintains proper records for purchases or sales to other pharmacies (borrow/loan)
    • Documents all recalled drugs and action taken.
    • Ensures the departmental charging is done accurately
  • Restock medication, IV dispensing and supply areas accurately within specified time periods.
  • Repackage bulk medications in unit‑dose packages safely and accurately per established procedures using appropriate techniques.
  • Pick up orders, requisitions, and medications for return from patient care areas when on delivery rounds.
  • Maintain the process for patient and department charges, and that they are accurately and timely posted to accounts.
  • Maintain the process for monitoring controlled substance documentation and waste in accordance with state and federal regulations and policy and procedure.
  • Answers the telephones, identifying self and department; directs calls to appropriate personnel.
  • Answers requests at the pharmacy and make stat deliveries to patient care and ancillary areas when requested.
  • Maintain medication storage appropriately per room temperature, refrigerator and freezer standards.
  • Maintain logs, records, and other required documentation accurately, files documentation in appropriate locations.
    • Maintain contract compliance through constant monitoring of purchases, proper use of shelf labels, Min/Max, bar codes, etc.
    • Processes invoices and credits daily.
    • Monitor statements or direct vendor log for invoices not paid.
