Lead CNC Machinist - 2nd Shift Supervisor Precision Machining
Run a new 2nd shift as a working supervisor at a precision machine shop serving oil & gas. Lead setups, QA, and training. 4x10 Mon-Thu, OT available, quarterly bonuses.
Role Summary- Run the entire 2nd shift as a working supervisor in a precision machine shop.
- Oversee 5-7 machinists; coach, train, and set standards for safety, quality, and throughput.
- Heavy focus on CNC setups for lathes and mills and on-the-floor troubleshooting.
- Schedule:
4x10s, Monday-Thursday, 4:00 pm to 2:30 am - Location Preferences:
Lawrence, KS or Gardner, KS or Edgerton, KS or Baldwin City, KS or Topeka, KS or Spring Hill, KS or Olathe, KS or Wellsville, KS

- Support hiring, onboarding, and skills development for 2nd shift machinists.
- Perform and standardize complex CNC setups for lathes and mills; input program edits.
- Verify first articles and in-process parts; lead root cause and corrective action.
- Drive production goals, on-time delivery, and scrap reduction.
- Enforce safe work practices and 5S; elevate maintenance needs and downtime issues.
- Partner with day shift to hand off jobs, tooling, and priorities.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Expert-level CNC setup experience on lathes and mills.
- Proven lead or supervisory experience in a machining environment.
- Able to read blueprints and understand GD&T callouts.
- Strong QA measurement skills using calipers, micrometers, gauges, indicators.
- Clear communicator with a servant leadership mindset.
- High mechanical aptitude; hands-on problem solver.
- Conversational CNC programming experience;
Mazak / Mazatrol preferred. - Experience with fanuc-type controls, offsets, and canned cycles.
- Exposure to job shop scheduling and quick changeover.
- Basic CMM use; SPC data collection; 5S/Lean participation.
- Post-secondary coursework, NIMS certification, or OSHA 10.
- CNC lathes and mills;
Mazak preferred. - Hand metrology: calipers, micrometers, bore and thread gauges, height gauges.
- Tooling and fixturing, presetters, offsets, and deburring tools.
- Fast-paced machine shop; mix of short-run and repeat precision work.
- Frequent standing, walking, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- PPE required; exposure to oils, coolants, noise, and varying temperatures.
