Job Overview

Ultrasound Technologist Per Diem (Miami Beach) at Mount Sinai Medical Center.

• Prepare exam room and ultrasound equipment to conduct sonography examinations in accordance with infection disease, sterilization, and patient safety protocols.
• Review patient medical history and supporting clinical information to verify physician orders prior to examination.
• Ensure sonography examination orders are complete, contain relevant information, and meet the standard of medical necessity.
• Inspect images for quality and monitor all images with respect to proper patient name, date, and medical record number prior to interpretation by Radiologist.
• Assist with training new technologists, technical assistants, and physician residents in all phases of assigned procedures, as requested by supervisor/manager/director.
• Demonstrate competency and observe safety guidelines when operating all specialized equipment in assigned clinical area, performing quality control procedures to ensure equipment operates at optimal levels.
• Communicate with the patient in a manner appropriate to the patient’s ability to understand.
• Apply independent judgment during the sonography examination to ensure that appropriate anatomical, pathological, and clinical conditions are accurately captured in examination images.
• Adjust to variable schedules and/or procedure techniques that may be required at times.
• Report all equipment malfunctions to lead technologist/supervisor and clinical engineering immediately.
• Maintain and stock room with proper supplies necessary to complete ultrasonic examinations.
• Demonstrate knowledge and proper use of computer programs, particularly EPIC and SYNAPSE systems.
• Provide a preliminary report of sonography examination for use by the interpreting physician and document any/​all patient exam delays in EPIC "Tech Notes" with date/time & technologist initials.
• Complete exam data entry on all studies performed on a daily basis and ensure all images were successfully sent to the PACS system.
• Check business e‑mail daily, respond as appropriate, and attend monthly department staff meetings as scheduled.

• American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) certified; ARRT certification preferred.
• Graduate of an AMA‑Accredited Educational Program for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers or equivalent; ARRT program graduate preferred.
• Applicant must be registered by ARDMS with one to three years of clinical ultrasound experience.
• Minimum ARDMS registry certification to include Abdomen or OB/GYN; other certification completed within six months;
  Vascular Technologist (RVT) certification preferred.
