This position is responsible for providing quality, accessible, and culturally responsive mental health services for an increasingly diverse student population at UH West Oahu. As a team member of the mental health center, this position will be another mental health professional, responsible for short-term and long-term programming to meet the Matagi - US DOE Federal Grant program objectives. Specific duties and responsibilities include the following.

  • Coordinate and manage all aspects of the UHWO - AANAPISI grant objectives. Ensure that the College is fulfilling its commitments in meeting all grant target outcomes.
  • Oversee and manage the development and implementation of all grant-related activities. This includes facilitating the development and implementation of collaborative Mental Health Services at UHWO.
  • Responsible for convening and working with stakeholders to facilitate the creation, implementation and/or revision of various aspects of the programs as needed.
  • Handle all administrative aspects of the grant activities including the JED program. Provide technical and administrative assistance to mental health teams as needed to implement program activities and fulfill grant objectives.
  • Implement and evaluate individual counseling and psychotherapy to students to maximize their potential to benefit from the college environment and to experience academic success.
  • Implement and evaluate group interventions including counseling, psychotherapy, and support to help students establish satisfying personal relationships and become effective in interpersonal processes.
  • Perform necessary charting and data collection/data recording requirements, acting in accordance with professional practice, APA code of ethics, state of Hawaii laws and administrative rules governing the practice of psychology.
  • Conduct consultative services, including the provision of training and instruction for faculty, staff, and others to help foster a campus environment that supports and promotes the development of emotionally and mentally healthy students.
  • Work in cooperation with faculty, staff, and others in academic departments, University offices, and the community to continuously improve and assure responsiveness of mental health counseling programs and services that respond to, and/or accommodate changing student demographics and attendant needs. This includes making appropriate referrals off-campus and soliciting expertise from sources external to campus.
  • Build campus communities’ capacity to identify, track, and respond to students in need.
  • Leverage data to garner support among stakeholders for mental health support and funding.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Doctorate Degree from a college or university of recognized standing in counseling or clinical psychology; completion of internship in professional psychology; and licensed as a psychologist in at least one state, with Hawaii licensure needing to be attained within 6 months of start date.
  • The equivalent of four years of clinical experience in university counseling services or equivalent mental health setting providing psychological direct services to young adults and/or adults. A doctoral internship in professional psychology may count as one year equivalent.
