The Role

Reporting to the Mass Burn Superintendent, the Shift Supervisor is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the MBN facility during an assigned shift, including the monitoring of boilers, turbines, and the steam plant. The Shift Supervisor routinely tours the plant, oversees personnel, and ensures compliance with safety regulations, environmental limits, and permits. In emergencies or unusual operations, the Shift Supervisor directs or performs required operations and coordinates all personnel involved.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Maintain a safe working environment for all personnel; ensure all personnel follow policies and procedures.
  • Approve requests to remove equipment from service for maintenance; clear and tag equipment and issue safety permits in accordance with plant procedures.
  • Maintain the plant within all environmental limits and permits.
  • Respond to injuries or accidents.
  • Direct the completion of a shift’s daily, weekly, and monthly checks.
  • Maximize operational performance on all aspects of the facility.
  • Troubleshoot plant operational issues.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities.
  • Complete projects as determined by the Operations Manager and MBN Superintendent.
  • Train and manage a workforce that is motivated, flexible in skills, cross‑trained, and technically capable.
  • Provide technical training and development for all personnel on the assigned shift.
  • Maintain administrative records on personnel.
  • Direct manpower to address housekeeping issues.
Position Requirements
  • 5–7 years of experience in power or resource recovery plant operations; engineering degree desirable but not required.
  • Hands‑on experience with high‑pressure boilers, steam and gas turbines, pumps, valves, water treatment systems, and condensers.
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Knowledge of steam‑generating power stations and instrument and control systems.
  • At least five years of hands‑on supervision of power plant machinery and personnel.
  • Proficient troubleshooting, training, and interpretation of logic diagrams; ability to develop and monitor critical plant procedures.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem‑solving/decision‑making skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); knowledge of computer‑based MMS desired.
  • Ability to work night, weekend, and holiday shifts as required for 24/7 staffing.
  • Must obtain the Site‑Specific ASME QRO Provisional Certification within six months and pass the test within 12 months.
Physical Demands
  • Work in all plant areas, including dust, noise, and wet conditions.
  • Walk, stand, sit, and climb in plant environment.
  • Lift or carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Work from heights and in confined spaces.
  • Qualify to wear a full‑face respirator and company‑issued PPE.
  • Operate in various weather conditions.

  • Base salary range: $ – $159,505 annually (good‑faith estimate; final figure based on experience, ability, and location).
