Skilled Mechanic

Specific Skills Required

• Manipulate properly all the fundamentals hand tools and equipment used in mechanical work.
• Able to analyze and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches.
• Apply mathematical skills involved in mechanical work.
• Operate skillfully all manual and power operated tools and equipment.
• Understand and apply the principles and theories of diesel and heat exchangers.
• Have the ability to perform precise measurements with the use of micrometer calipers and verniers.
• Skillfully perform rigging in/out heavy objects.
• Able to disassemble and reassemble parts and components, tagging techniques, and replacement of worn out parts.
• Must comply, as directed, with NAVSEA standards and specifications required of the job and other government agencies.
• Able to remove and re-install propellers, propeller shafts and cutlass bearings.
• Must have basic alignment knowledge.
• Able to determine the series and kinds of threads and the pitch of thread for the nuts and bolts.
• Perform micrometer and Vernier reading accurately.

High School Diploma or general education degree (GED) required - with a two year AA degree in marine mechanic field; or four (4) years continuous work experience in related field.

• Must have basic mechanic tools.
• A valid Driver's License and be able to obtain a Rapid Gate Pass via Navy background check.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
