Position Overview

Ricky Shuler Trucking, Inc. is seeking a highly qualified Certified Public Accountant (CPA) for a senior leadership role serving as CFO / Head of Accounting & Tax. This is a long‑term, full‑time opportunity for an experienced accounting professional with strong tax expertise and proven leadership capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Leadership & Reporting

  • Lead and manage daily accounting operations, including AP, AR, payroll, billing, and general ledger.
  • Prepare, review, and analyze monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements (income statements, balance sheets, cash flow).
  • Ensure full compliance with GAAP, federal and state regulations, and internal controls.
  • Develop, maintain and enhance internal controls, accounting policies and procedures.

Tax & Compliance

  • Prepare and file complex business and individual tax returns.
  • Oversee all federal, state and local tax compliance, including payroll taxes.
  • Stay current on tax law changes and apply them strategically to the business.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for tax matters and regulatory inquiries.

Payroll & Regulatory Oversight

  • Oversee ADP payroll processing, ensuring accuracy, timeliness and compliance.
  • Manage payroll tax filings, benefits integration, deductions and year‑end reporting (W-2s, 1099s).

Operational Accounting & Cost Control

  • Provide financial insights to operations leadership, including cost trends, route‑level profitability, equipment utilization and driver settlement analysis.
  • Ensure accurate and timely customer billing based on crude oil hauling tickets, BOLs and contract terms.
  • Oversee Accounts Receivable collections, reconciliations and credit management.
  • Manage Accounts Payable workflows, vendor relationships and expense controls.

Systems & Process Optimization

  • Implement and optimize accounting systems, reporting tools and automation processes.
  • Ensure accurate integration between dispatch/ticketing systems and accounting software.
  • Collaborate closely with dispatch, safety and operations teams to align financial and operational data.

Team Leadership

  • Supervise, train and mentor accounting staff.
  • Delegate responsibilities while maintaining oversight of critical financial functions.
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable and solutions‑oriented environment.

Minimum Qualifications (Required)

  • Active, current CPA license (required).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
  • 11+ years of public accounting experience.
  • Experience with business and individual tax preparation and filing.
  • Experience with GAAP.
  • Experience with Advanced Excel.
  • Experience with Quick Books.
  • Experience with Drake and/or Ultra Tax software.
  • Strong leadership, communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with urgency, accountability and precision.

Preferred Experience

  • Prior experience in a CFO, VP of Finance or senior accounting leadership role.
  • Experience overseeing large teams and complex operations.
  • Strong background in strategic planning, process improvement and operational finance.
  • Experience working directly with senior executives to shape organizational strategy.
  • Prior exposure to transportation, logistics or asset‑heavy industries is a plus.

Additional Responsibilities

While not exhaustive, responsibilities may also include:

  • Direct client communication.
  • Payroll processing as needed.
  • Special projects and ad‑hoc financial initiatives.
