Wage Range (Firefighter/AEMT): $58,589 to $79,089
Wage Range (Firefighter/Paramedic): $65,752 to $88,757

Performs a variety of firefighting and AEMT or Paramedic duties related to protecting the life and property of city residents. Must be able to drive and operate all types of fire and EMS apparatus.
Firefighter- Receives continuous classroom and field training in fire prevention, E.M.T., and firefighting techniques, principles, and procedures
- Receives specialized training in salvage and rescue operations, emergency medical aid, civil defense, hazardous materials, disaster, drowning, and other related emergency situations, and participates in drills
- Responds to fire alarm signals; serves as member of firefighting team; rides fire truck to scene of fire; manipulates various sized appliances, nozzles, hose streams; lays and connects water hose, hooks up pump, holds nozzle and directs water stream; raises and climbs ladders and utilizes other specialized equipment such as chemical fire extinguisher, SCBA, encapsulated chemical suits, power saws; operates extension ladders in rescue situations;
uses rope, axes, etc. - Receives instruction on policies and procedures to conduct fire prevention inspections; conducts inspections and advises residents or owners; assists in performing fire scene investigations to determine "point of origin" and cause of fires; prepares and submits a variety of reports related to inspection activity
- Participates in public presentations, station tours, community events, and marketing to promote fire hazard awareness and fire prevention
- Evaluates patient condition, injuries, accident scenes, and medical emergencies; administers aid per protocol; monitors vital signs; provides basic life support until transported to hospital
- Operates resuscitation and suction devices during CPR; uses vacuum splints, cervical collars, backboards, and other medical devices used to immobilize patients during transport and extrication
- Applies bandages and dressings on soft tissue injuries to stop bleeding; applies pneumatic anti-shock pants per protocol; lifts and carries patients from scene to ambulance according to established procedures; performs related duties as required
- Performs various lead worker duties and assists in coordinating continuing education programs, workshops, and seminars aligned with Paramedic licensing requirements
- Coordinates with state regulatory agencies; provides mentoring supervision to less experienced Paramedic and AEMT personnel; evaluates AEMT performance; recommends employment status including retention, advancement, discipline, or discharge
- Responds to emergency medical calls; operates ambulance under emergency and customary conditions; transports patients to healthcare facilities
- Evaluates patient condition, injuries, accident scenes; administers aid per protocol; monitors vital signs; provides basic life support until transported to hospital
- Performs advanced life support procedures such as direct laryngoscopy, endotracheal intubation, endotracheal suctioning, jet insufflation, surgical cricothyrotomy, needle thoracostomy, femoral venous access, ECG interpretation, synchronized cardioversion, defibrillation, transcutaneous cardiac placement, use of infusion pumps; administers advanced medications (adeno, albuterol, atropine, dextrose, nitroglycerine, dopamine HCI, diazepam, etc.); utilizes advanced medication routes; monitors special medications; may perform rapid sequence intubation and ipratropium bromide inhalation therapy
- Performs intermediate-level emergency medical procedures such as blood drawing, external jugular access, subcutaneous injections, intravenous injections, nebulized inhalations, intradermal biological testing, immunological…
