SALARY RANGE
: 90% of $5,918 + $527 shortage differential (SR20, BU13)
The Respiratory Therapist III works in the respiratory therapy unit and exercises considerable independent clinical judgment in applying scientific knowledge and theory to practical respiratory care problems in accordance with physicians’ orders. The position is responsible for independently administering respiratory tests and treatment to patients with respiratory diseases and disorders, including cases involving critically ill, pediatric, and neonatal patients. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of growth and development and the ability to assess data reflective of a patient’s status to determine age-specific needs and provide appropriate care for birth through older age groups (birth-17 years, 18-65 years, 65+ years).
The position may be required to work on shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Must be available to work shifts as necessary based on hospital operations; services are provided 24/7.
Education
: A baccalaureate degree in respiratory therapy from a school approved by CoARC or CAAHEP at the time of graduation. Substitutions:
An associate degree in respiratory therapy from an approved program and two (2) years of professional experience as a Respiratory Therapist may substitute for a baccalaureate degree.
Experience
:
One (1) year of professional experience as a Respiratory Therapist under medical supervision, with a full professional understanding of evaluation, testing, and treatment of respiratory therapy problems and the ability to develop and modify patient care plans.
Desired Skills
:
Knowledge of principles and practices of respiratory therapy, treatment procedures, equipment operation, patient monitoring, documentation, CPR, and instructing patients/families. Ability to independently apply respiratory therapy principles, select and use diagnostic procedures, prepare treatment plans, communicate effectively, operate and adjust equipment, maintain records, and educate patients.
Certification
:
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required within six (6) months of employment.
Licensure
:
Valid Hawaii license as a Respiratory Therapist at time of appointment.
Applicants must be physically able to perform the essential duties, including reading standard text, hearing, bending, kneeling, lifting, pushing/pulling, reaching, sitting, standing, and ambulating between units. Ability to work varying shifts and longer than eight hours as needed.
