JOB LOCATION: KONA COMMUNITY HOSPITAL – Occupational Therapy

SALARY RANGE: $28.03/hour (SR20, BU13) + ($14.50/hour Shortage Differential)

JOB DUTIES: This staff therapist position performs diagnostic assessments and prepares and implements treatment plans in providing professional occupational therapy services for the full range of cases within the scope of a program for the habilitation and rehabilitation of patients. This position may be required to work shifts, weekends, and holidays.

MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK SHIFTS AS NECESSARY BASED ON HOSPITAL OPERATIONS; SERVICES ARE PROVIDED 24/7.

THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS ARE:
Applicants must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated; the required education and experiences may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experiences are based on a 40-hour work week.

EDUCATION: Degree in occupational therapy from a school of occupational therapy approved at the time of graduation by the American Occupational Therapy Association, Inc. in collaboration with the American Medical Association; or in the case of a foreign-trained person, the credentials indicating completion of an occupational therapy education program shall be evaluated and approved by the Certification Committee of the American Occupational Therapy Association, Inc.

Must have successfully completed the field work requirements prescribed by the degree awarding school.

EXPERIENCE
:
None required. One (1) year of progressively responsible work experience as an Occupational Therapist under medical supervision preferred.

DESIRED SKILLS: Knowledge of:
Basic practices and methods in the repair of buildings, including safety procedures; common tools, equipment and materials used in the carpentry, painting, plumbing and electrical trades.

Ability to:
Use the common tools utilized in a variety of building trades; do minor mechanical repairs; read and interpret sketches and simple plans; understand and follow oral and written instructions; perform heavy lifting, moving, digging or other manual work typical of the class.

CERTIFICATION & LICENSE REQUIREMENT
:
1) Applicants must have passed the Occupational Therapist national certification examination administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT); and
2) Licensed with the State of Hawaii as an Occupational Therapist (OT) at the time of appointment.

OTHER CERTIFICATION: Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Workers at the time of appointment.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: Knowledge of:
Functional anatomy, kinesiology, neuroanatomy, physiology, neurophysiology, abnormal and educational psychology and related sciences; basic principles, practices and philosophy of occupational therapy; occupational therapy evaluation and testing procedures; current treatment techniques including use and modifications of appropriate therapy equipment and appliances; and methods of instructing clients; and available occupational therapy resources in the community.

Ability to:
Independently apply principles, methods and techniques of occupational therapy; instruct clients and others in the application of the occupational therapy process; and supervise subprofessional occupational therapy personnel.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must be physically able to perform, efficiently and effectively, the essential duties of the position which typically require the ability to read without strain printed material the size of typewritten characters, glasses permitted, and the ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid, or the ability to compensate satisfactorily. Disabilities in these or other areas will not automatically result in disqualification.
