SALARY RANGE
: $5,258/month (SR22; BU13) + Additional $4,576/month Shortage Differential ; + $666.66/month Temporary Shortage Differential
This position interprets physician prescriptions and medication orders. The position will primarily work with the outpatient infusion center and oncology department, working 8-hour shifts on weekdays, but may work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays and may require standby and call-back duty.
MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK SHIFTS AS NECESSARY BASED ON HOSPITAL OPERATIONS; SERVICES ARE PROVIDED 24/7.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTSApplicants must meet all of the following requirements. In addition, qualifying work experiences are based on a 40-hour work week.
HEALTH UNIT COORDINATOR I REQUIREMENTS
:
EDUCATION:
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a baccalaureate or Pharm.
D degree in pharmacy.
EXPERIENCE:
- 6 months of full-time work experience as a licensed pharmacist. ASHP-accredited Pharmacy Residency Preferred;
Oncology experience Preferred.
CERTIFICATION:
- None.
LICENSURE:
- A valid license with the State of Hawaii as a Pharmacist is required at the time of appointment.
SUPERVISORY APTITUDE:
- Must possess supervisory aptitude. Supervisory aptitude is the demonstration of aptitude or potential for the performance of supervisory duties through successful completion of regular or special assignments which involve some supervisory responsibilities or aspects; by serving as a group or team leader, previous work experience in a position that demonstrates or performs supervisory functions or in similar work in which opportunities for demonstrating supervisory capabilities exist;
by completion of training courses in supervision accompanied by application of supervisory skills in work assignments; or by favorable appraisals by a supervisor indicating the possession of supervisory potential.

The principles and practices of professional pharmacy and their application to the operation of a pharmacy; specialized sciences directly applicable to pharmacy, such as pharmacokinetics, pharmacology, toxicology and therapeutics; pharmaceutical instruments and techniques used in compounding. Knowledge of preparation of sterile admixture and sterile technique. - Knowledge of USP Chapter 797 and USP Chapter 800 required. Employees must adhere to all rules and regulations regarding personal hygiene and garbing as detailed in USP Chapter 797 when working in the clean room. Employees must adhere to all requirements regarding proper PPE when handling or compounding hazardous materials as detailed in USP Chapter 800.

Apply acquired knowledge to pharmacy processes such as reading and interpreting prescriptions, instructions and procedures; keep records and prepare reports; establish and maintain effective working relationship with medical and administrative personnel within the agency.

WORKING CONDITIONS/
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be physically able to perform, efficiently and effectively, the essential duties of the position which typically require the ability to read without strain printed material the size of typewritten characters, glasses permitted, and the ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid, or the ability to compensate satisfactorily. May be exposed to hazardous materials, chemotherapeutic agents, infections and contagious diseases.
Works with constant interruptions due to a large variety of activities conducted in office. Works under pressure due to interruptions and workload deadlines. The person in this position must be able to maintain confidentiality and be able to function efficiently with little or no supervision.
Required Forms & Documentation: Evidence of the appropriate training (e.g., official transcript or degree) to be given credit for education and/or experience. A legible photocopy will be accepted; however, Kona Community Hospital reserves the right to request an official copy.
