Job Duties

This position is responsible for the cleaning, disassembling and assembling of equipment and issuing of items which must be available in sterile condition; also stores and issues prepackaged, disposable and sterile medical/surgical items.

Availability

MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK SHIFTS AS NECESSARY BASED ON HOSPITAL OPERATIONS; SERVICES ARE PROVIDED 24/7.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants must meet all of the following requirements.

  • Education: Satisfactory completion of high school courses in mathematics and English or possession of a General Education Development (GED) certificate preferred.
  • Experience: Six (6) months of work experience which demonstrated knowledge of and the ability to perform simple arithmetic involving the addition and multiplication of whole numbers, the ability to read, understand and follow simple instructions and match names and numbers accurately.

  • Licensure: None
Knowledge & Abilities Required
  • Knowledge of: A thorough knowledge of the nomenclature, physical characteristics and uses of the full range of equipment and supplies used in a large acute care hospital; a thorough knowledge of sterilizing and processing procedures and the procedures for the assembly of the full range of trays and sets.
  • Ability to: Perform the full range of work of a central supply function; substitute items as necessary; work independently, and work effectively with others.

Physical Requirements

Applicants must be physically able to perform, efficiently and effectively, the essential duties of the position which typically require the ability to read without strain printed material the size of typewritten characters, glasses permitted, to do moderate lifting and carrying of articles weighing up to 44 pounds, and sufficient dexterity to handle various articles for cleaning, sterilizing, packaging, or the ability to compensate satisfactorily.

Forms & Documentation

Evidence of the appropriate training (e.g., official transcript or degree) to be given credit for education and/or experience. A legible photocopy will be accepted; however, Kona Community Hospital reserves the right to request an official copy.

Physical / Medicinal Examination Requirements

Offers of employment will be contingent on successfully passing a pre‑employment physical examination, which includes drug screen and other regulatory medical requirements such as, but not limited to, two–step tuberculosis (TB) screen. The cost for physical examinations, except the cost for drug screening, shall be borne by the applicant.

Citizenship, Residence and Veteran Preference

Citizenship and Residence Requirement: Applicants must be eligible to work in the U.S. and at the time of appointment intend to reside in the State of Hawaii.

Veteran’s Preference: If you are claiming Veteran’s Preference, you must submit a copy of your DD214 and/or other substantiating documents specifying the periods of your service.
