JOB DUTIESThis position works in the pharmacy unit of a hospital, clinic, or long‑term care facility and assists a Pharmacist in providing pharmaceutical services in accordance with established procedures and methods. The position may require working on shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Must be available to work shifts as necessary based on hospital operations; services are provided 24/7.
QUALIFICATIONS – ENTRY LEVEL- One (1) year of work experience in a pharmacy setting (community pharmacy, hospitals, or other medical institutions) providing basic knowledge of pharmaceutical nomenclature, weights and measures, common preparations, dosage requirements, storage requirements, routes of administration, and prescription‑filing practices.
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations and transcribe accurate medication profiles.
- Certification preferred and may be required:
• Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) issued by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) obtained within six (6) months of employment
• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Workers obtained within six (6) months of employment
- In addition to the entry‑level qualifications, one (1) year of work experience assisting a licensed pharmacist in a hospital, including receipt and reading of prescription orders, arithmetic calculations for drug doses, measuring, counting, packaging, and labeling items, aseptic and sterile compounding techniques, inventory management, and compliance with state and federal pharmacy regulations.
- Desirable skills: quick learning, teamwork, self‑motivation, computer proficiency, strong memory, ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, squat, crawl, climb, and reach above head as needed for prescription preparation and medication distribution.
- Capability to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted and to carry up to 51 lbs. with assistance.
- Fine motor skills, good hand‑eye coordination, and the ability to manipulate small items safely.
- Normal hearing, eyesight (corrected or uncorrected), and general mental acuity to read prescriptions, communicate with staff and physicians, and manage controlled substances.
