The Medical Surgical unit is responsible for acute pediatric, adolescent, and adult medical/surgical, and telemetry-monitored patients.

The Per Diem Nurse coordinates nursing care for patients, participates in patient and family teaching and provides leadership by working cooperatively with other staff and departments in maintaining standards of nursing care; follows established policies, procedures or specific instructions. This position may be required to work shifts, weekends, and holidays.

This position reports to the Registered Professional Nurse VI (Nurse Manager), position #57420.

Applicants must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated; the required education and experiences may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experiences are based on a 40-hour work week.

Graduated from an accredited school of nursing. While not required, graduation from an accredited nursing program with a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university is highly desirable.

One year of professional nursing work experience, where the employee independently provided nursing care to patients in a clinic, hospital, or institution.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required upon employment. For some positions Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) may be required.

Possession of a current license to practice as a professional nurse in the State of Hawaii.
