Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN with at least 2 years of acute care experience, active NE or compact license, and required critical care certifications.
Responsibilities- Work in a 33-bed adult ICU in an acute care hospital setting
- Average daily census is 16 with nurse to patient ratios of 1:2-3 for adults
- Common patient cases include trauma, cardiac events, substance overdose, sepsis, post-stent, pacemaker placement, stroke, vascular cases, renal failure, heart failure, and respiratory distress
- Shifts are 12 hours, days (06:30-18:30)
- Weekend requirement is every other weekend and minimum of 2 holidays during contract
- RNs titrate cardiac, insulin, and sedation drips
- RNs use GE monitors; must interpret and document telemetry strips
- Care includes respiratory equipment ranging from nasal cannula to mechanical ventilation
- Floating required to PCU and occasionally to Med Surg, with typical ratios of those units (1:4 or 1:5)
- EMR system is Epic
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply will result in contract termination
- Pass/fail open-book skills exam with a required score of 90% during orientation
- Unit-specific orientation is one shift (12 hours)
- Healthcare support tech available weekdays to assist based on unit census
- Up to 7 days of requested time off (RTO) permitted per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved
- Self-scheduling is available for core staff; travelers may be added to schedule but block scheduling is not guaranteed
- Blocked scheduling is only possible for weekends if approved
- Duos cannot be accommodated on the same schedule or for shared car arrangements
- Must be able to work a minimum of 2 holidays during the contract period
- Active NE or compact RN license required at time of consideration; pending licensure not accepted
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS required
- Minimum 2 years of recent ICU experience in an acute care setting
- Ability to titrate a variety of IV drips including cardiac, insulin, and sedation
- Must be able to interpret and document telemetry strips
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility; driver’s license required for address verification
- Candidates may not have been directly employed (full, part time, or PRN) with Common Spirit, CHI, or Dignity in the past year
- Professional references: one supervisor reference from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor reference from within the last 3 years
