Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an ICU position requiring a NE or compact RN license, ACLS, BLS, NIHSS certifications, and at least 2 years of ICU experience.
Responsibilities- Work in a 33-bed adult ICU within an acute care hospital
- Average daily census is 16 adult patients with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:2-3
- Common patient cases include trauma, cardiac, overdose, sepsis, post-stent, pacemaker placement, stroke, vascular, renal failure, heart failure, and respiratory distress
- RNs are required to titrate cardiac, insulin, and sedation drips
- Use of RT equipment spans from nasal cannula to ventilators
- RNs must read, interpret, and document telemetry strips on GE monitors with tele tech support
- Shifts are 12 hours, days ), with every other weekend required
- Floating to PCU or occasionally Med Surg expected, maintaining similar patient ratios
- EMR is Epic; prior experience is helpful
- At least two holidays within the contract must be worked
- Self-scheduling, but block scheduling is not available for travelers
- RNs must pass an open-book skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90%
- Healthcare support techs and nurse aides are available based on unit census for additional assistance
- Artificial nails are prohibited for patient care staff
- Initial unit orientation consists of one shift
- Requests for time off must be submitted prior to assignment (maximum 7 days for a 13-week contract)
- Block scheduling is only considered for weekends, with no duos allowed to share the same schedule or vehicle
- Active NE or compact RN license in hand (pending licenses not accepted)
- Minimum 2 years of ICU RN experience required
- Certifications required: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
- Must submit a copy of driver's license for radius rule determination
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
- Candidates cannot have been employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any Common Spirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year
- Two professional references are required: one supervisor from the past year and one supervisor or peer from the past 3 years
