Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) night shift assignment requiring a NE or compact RN license, with competency in arterial lines and titratable drips.
Responsibilities- Position is in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) of an acute hospital setting
- Stepdown unit with a 40-bed capacity and an average daily census of 24
- Adult patient population including cardiac med/surg, dialysis, cancer, vascular, sepsis, respiratory, stroke, post stent or pacer, and renal failure cases
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4-5 for both day and night shifts
- Night shifts are 12 hours, from 6:30 pm to 6:30 am
- Required to work every other weekend
- Holiday coverage required for at least two holidays during the contract period
- Floating may be required to Med Surg or ICU, caring for PCU acuity patients
- RNs must titrate drips including Heparin, Nitro, Dopamine, Cardizem, Amiodarone, and insulin
- Requires interpretation of telemetry strips; no monitor techs
- High flow respiratory equipment in use
- EMR system is Epic; experience preferred
- One day of unit-specific orientation provided
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Radius rule enforced: candidate must live at least 50 miles from the facility; driver's license required for address verification
- Responsibilities include managing complex adult medical conditions, interpreting cardiac rhythms, and titrating multiple critical care infusions
- Team includes charge RNs and nurse aides/patient care techs
- Supportive environment with focus on communication, responsiveness, and patient experience
- Candidates must pass an open-book exam on unit-specific skills with a minimum score of 90% during orientation
- Artificial nails are prohibited for patient care staff and must be removed prior to starting
- Emphasis on flexibility, adaptability, and teamwork
- Unit serves diverse cultural populations including Hispanic and Somali patients
- Overhead and portable lifts, vein finders, and bladder scanners available
- Seven days or less of requested time off allowed per 13-week contract; additional time off not approved
- Candidates submitted as duos or those requiring identical schedules cannot be accommodated
- Active NE or compact RN license at time of consideration
- Minimum of 2 years of recent PCU or stepdown RN experience
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Competency in managing arterial lines required
- Ability to titrate critical IV drips
- Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from the past 3 years
- Copy of driver's license required
- Candidates must not have been employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by any facility associated with Common Spirit, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year
- Pending licenses and certifications not accepted
