Excavator Operator

Overview

We are currently seeking a skilled Excavator Operator to join our growing construction company. A strong work ethic, attention to detail, willingness to travel, and dependability are a must.

• Operate excavator in a safe and efficient manner; capable of running backfill excavator and/or lead excavator in pipeline operations.
• Operate backfill excavator with the sheepsfoot compaction wheel and achieve specified moisture and density requirements.
• Lead excavator operations may involve trench boxes, shoring, sloping, benching, etc.
• Perform maintenance and basic repairs of excavator; assist with surveying, measure slopes and grades, and use pipe lasers for pipe laying.
• Perform some manual labor daily as required; participate in safety trainings on the job and through formal programs.
• Operate other heavy equipment consistent with skill level and training as needed.

• 5+ years of previous experience as an Excavator Operator performing the tasks listed above.
• Experience running excavators in pipe laying operations; ability to run backfill and lead excavators safely and efficiently.
• Ability to determine compaction requirements and achieve specified moisture and density; operate trench boxes, shoring, slopes, and related tasks.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds; sit, stand, walk for long periods; stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl as needed.
• Valid driver s license preferred but not required; ability to pass pre-employment (post-offer) drug screen; must be authorized to work in the US.
• Willingness to abide by all safety rules; safety training provided on the job and via formal training.

• Hourly rate: $27 per hour and up depending on experience
• 50+ hours per week (no weekend work)
• Some projects require being out of town Monday–Friday (home on weekends)
• Transportation provided from Kearney, NE when working out of town
• Paid travel time; hotel paid by company; nightly per diem for meals when working out of town
• Year‑round employment (no winter layoffs)
