Overview
The Acute Care Licensed Practical Nurse delivers care to inmate patients, utilizing nursing assessment protocols in assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation, in accordance with established philosophy. They collaborate with the Registered Nurse to ensure effective patient care delivery and achievement of desired patient outcomes. Acute Care LPNs effectively interact with patients while maintaining the standard of professional nursing.
Duties / Responsibilities- Deliver acute care nursing services to patients, including wound care, vital sign monitoring, medication administration, and emergency response.
- Assist chronic/long-term patients with positioning, toileting, and ADLs as needed.
- Monitor patient status and promptly report changes in condition to RN or provider.
- Assist in assessment of urgent medical complaints, ensuring appropriate documentation and follow-up.
- Provide care coordination and health education to patients with acute and chronic conditions.
- Respond to medical emergencies and perform CPR and other life-saving interventions as needed.
- Maintain accurate and timely medical records, including intake assessments, treatment notes, and medication administration.
- Ensure compliance with correctional facility procedures, safety protocols, and regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with correctional officers and interdisciplinary health teams to maintain secure and therapeutic care environments.
- Participate in infection control, health screenings, and wellness initiatives within the facility.
- Support discharge planning and continuity of care for patients being transferred or released.

- Ability to command the respect and confidence of inmates and staff, and philosophically committed to the objectives of the facility
- Maintains an active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or CPR
- Education:
Graduate of an accredited LPN program. - Licensure:
Current, unrestricted LPN license in [State]. - Certifications:
BLS certification required; ACLS preferred. - Experience:
Prior work in corrections, emergency, or acute care settings is strongly preferred.
