Position Overview
This is a working leadership role responsible for performing mechanical inspections while managing and improving quality processes across the organization. The position combines hands-on inspection duties with leadership responsibilities, including oversight of inspection activities, quality systems, and continuous improvement initiatives.
This role is intended to evolve into a supervisory position, providing a clear path toward Quality Management while immediately contributing to operational excellence.
- Perform and oversee inspection of mechanical components using precision instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges, pins, comparators, CMM).
- Program and operate CMM machines for complex component inspections.
- Ensure compliance with internal and customer-specific quality standards.
- Maintain calibration of gauges and metrology equipment and manage calibration records.
- Act as the primary point of contact for quality-related issues on the production floor.
- Lead and mentor inspection team members, providing training and guidance on inspection techniques and quality standards.
- Develop and maintain inspection procedures, work instructions, and quality documentation.
- Coordinate with Engineering and Production to resolve quality issues and implement corrective actions.
- Monitor and analyze inspection data for trends; report findings to management and recommend process improvements.
- Support internal audits and assist with gaining compliance with ISO and/or other regulatory standards.
- Participate in customer quality reviews and supplier quality evaluations as needed.
- Ensure timely processing of quality related tasks in the ERP and QMS systems (i.e., labor tickets, defect recording, tracking, and disposition).
- Drive initiatives to improve inspection efficiency and overall product quality.
- Collaborate with management on quality objectives, KPIs, and improvement projects.
- Assist in preparing for external audits and certifications.
- Advanced knowledge of mechanical inspection tools and techniques, including CMM programming.
- Strong understanding of quality systems, standards (ISO, ANSI), and compliance requirements.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and schematics.
- Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., Solid Works).
- Experience in machining techniques, metallurgy, and industrial finishes.
- Proven leadership ability with experience training and guiding others.
- Strong analytical, documentation, and reporting skills.
- Computer proficiency and ability to manage inspection and quality data.
- Self-starter with ability to work independently and lead initiatives.
- Ability to obtain required security clearances.
- High school diploma or vocational training plus 6+ years of inspection and quality control experience, including leadership responsibilities, or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Experience with quality management systems and audits preferred.
