Indigenous Student Advocate in Education

Empower Indigenous students with Central Okanagan Public Schools as an Indigenous Student Advocate. This role focuses on providing emotional and academic support while enhancing student attendance and engagement.

Working directly under the District Principal of Indigenous Education, the Indigenous Student Advocate supports Indigenous students in their educational journeys. This position involves collaborating with teachers and support staff to deliver cultural and academic assistance. You will help in attendance monitoring and assist students with goal setting while fostering a sense of belonging and pride in their heritage.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide social, emotional, and academic support to students

• Monitor and enhance attendance for Indigenous students

• Assist with goal setting and career planning initiatives

• Collaborate with educators to plan effectively for student needs

• Bridge communication between home and school environments

Requirements:

• Successful completion of Grade 12 education

• Two years in Indigenous Studies or related field

• Experience working with Indigenous students and families

• Ability to model Indigenous cultural teachings

• Empathetic approach to student interactions
