Your Opportunity  The duties and responsibilities of a Vocational Instructor include continuing excellence in one's field, instructional and professional duties, professional development and service.
Functions and Duties   Instructional duties may include any or all of the following:
Instructional (teaching assignments), Course and program preparation and revision, Student contact, Student advising, Evaluation and marking of student work, Other functions related to instruction.
Professional duties may include any or all of the following:
Curriculum development, Student registration, Pre‑registration duties.
Service may include any or all of the following:
School visitations, Participation on OC committees, Attendance at articulation meetings, Representing OC at other functions.
Administrative and other duties.
Professional development activity that is intended to promote teaching excellence, subject area competence, and technical competence in the area of qualified or instructional expertise.

Education and Experience   Successful completion of a pastry chef apprenticeship program and a Certificate of Apprenticeship with an Interprovincial endorsement.
An undergraduate degree and post secondary teaching experience are preferred; however, applicants with an equivalent combination of teaching and work experience may be considered.
An Instructor’s Diploma or valid BC Teachers Certificate appropriate to the instructional assignment is preferred, and will be required following appointment in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
Minimum 10 years experience in baking with at least 5 years of high level pastry work including 2 years at a supervisor level.
Preference will be given to applicants with a hotel/resort background.

Skills and Abilities

Committed to a team approach, demonstrate positive written and oral English skills and have good interpersonal skills.
The ideal candidate will have an exceptional teaching record with demonstrated learner‑centred teaching philosophy.
Comfortable in a computerized environment and demonstrate knowledge of programs relevant to their discipline.
Will be able to encourage communication between students and faculty.
Desired Start Date  07/14/2025
Position End Date (if temporary)  06/30/2026
Schedule  Given on‑call nature of position, schedule and frequency of instruction may vary. Typical instructional day is 7.5 hours long. Typical instructional week is four days and would not exceed 30 hours. Initial on‑call contract is set up until Jun 30, 2026 but is not a guarantee of work for the entire contract period.
Annual Salary/Hourly Rate  Salary range $71,846 to $115,129 annually; normal starting salary between $78,872 and $85,897 annually, dependent on relevant education and experience.
