PRINCESS MARGARET SECONDARY SCHOOLAt Princess Margaret Secondary School, we believe every student should feel like they belong and have the opportunity to thrive. This role is centred on providing behaviour support and inclusive education programming across both regular classroom settings and targeted support blocks, working alongside classroom teachers to ensure students have meaningful access to learning and opportunities to engage.
The focus is on supporting students in building the skills, confidence, and strategies they need to be successful in inclusive environments, while maintaining high expectations and fostering independence.
Temporary, full-time (1.00 f.t.e.) effective 26.09.01 to 27.06.30, initial assignment to Inclusive Education and Behaviour Support teacher, and Social Studies 8.
Necessary Qualifications- Bachelor of Education – Secondary;
- Inclusive Education, Social Studies Teaching Specialization;
- Recent successful experience as an Inclusion Education Teacher in a Secondary school.
- Completed advanced study in Special/Inclusive Education, including courses in Children with Exceptionalities (intellectual disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, neuro- developmental disabilities, sensory impairments, chronic health impairments, physical disabilities, behaviour disorders and mental illness), Assessment of Learning Difficulties (Level “B” Assessment), Programming for students with diverse needs, and creating positive learning environments in inclusive education;
- Be able to design, implement and evaluate programming for students with diverse needs in Grade 8-12 settings;
- Oversee a caseload of students with IEP's and/or SLP's. Duties to include creating IEP documents that are collaborative with teachers, parents/guardians and support appropriate adaptions and/or modifications;
- be able to demonstrate an understanding of integration and transition issues;
- be able to administer assessments such as the WIAT;
- have experience in differentiating and providing inclusive learning opportunities that reflect the unique needs and interests of all students;
- be able to demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills;
- be prepared to provide service within classrooms;
- be able to demonstrate exceptional time management and organizational skills;
- be able to work collaboratively with administrators, teachers, parents, students, community support personnel and colleagues in Student Support Services;
- be able to provide effective supervision of Certified Education Assistants;
- have a solid understanding of the BC Ministry of Education Revised Curriculum
- be able to modify and/or adapt curriculum in accordance with BC Ministry of Education Inclusive Education Policy and Guidelines; and
- be thoroughly familiar and experienced with all aspects of the IEP process.
- have current/recent training in education of students with Autism Spectrum Disorders and current practices in Inclusive Education;
- have experience working with Inclusive Education technology and/or is willing to attend training sessions to enhance skills in these areas;
- are trained or willing to be trained in the programs that focus on positive decision making, conflict resolution, anger management…
