Your Opportunity
  • In accordance with Letter of Understanding #1 – Student Employees, and in coordination and under direct supervision of the Educational Technology Coordinator, Teaching and Learning Advisor, Librarian, or designated supervisor, the TLI Student Assistant provides peer-based support with educational technologies by assisting with teaching and learning activities that help educators and students better understand and utilize educational technologies. The Student Assistant connects learners with educators and peers to enhance engagement, and assists the supervisor and Teaching and Learning Innovations Portfolio with programming for educators and learners.
Functions

and Duties

Under the supervision of the Educational Technology Coordinator, Teaching and Learning Advisor, Librarian, or designated supervisor, the TLI Student Assistant, will perform the following duties:

  • Offer assistance to peers as required each week, to support their navigating and use of the College’s educational technology platforms.
  • Work with supervisor to provide one-to-one educator help in solving problems related to educational technology and digital learning systems, providing contributions from a student perspective.
  • Work with supervisor to support the maintenance of educational technologies and digital learning systems.
  • Flag areas of improvement to help resolve minor technical issues proactively.
  • Assist the supervisor with onboarding educators and students to new educational technology systems.
  • Maintain statistics and records regarding service and space usage and follow portfolio procedures.
  • Support educational and digital platform migration activities.
  • Work with the supervisor to create innovative opportunities to engage with educational technologies that can lead to improved educational and student outcomes.
  • Regularly communicate with the supervisor and other support staff regarding activities and initiatives.
  • Refer students and educators to appropriate college resources and services when additional support is required.
  • Participate in college-wide TLI events such as workshops and PD days
  • Perform other related duties as assigned that are similar in scope.
  • Education and Experience
    • Enrolled in a post-secondary program at Okanagan College.
    • Prior work or volunteer experience is considered an asset.
    • Proficiency in the technologies of assigned work, such as Learning Management Systems, educational technologies, LTIs and APIs.
    • Preference given to those with experience offering technical support.

    • Strong interpersonal, problem solving, communication, and time management skills.
    • High level of technical aptitude and proficiency in the use of a variety of computer software applications.
    • Ability to provide both individual and small group assistance.
    • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
    • Developed organizational skills.
    • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, with a desire to work in a collegial and collaborative environment.
