The Civil Engineering Designer / Inspector supports land development and capital works projects through both design and construction phases.
Working under the guidance of Project Managers and Senior Staff, the role includes Civil 3D design, engineering analysis, cost estimating, and preparation of tender and contract documents. The position also involves performing field inspections, preparing field review reports, and assisting with construction administration to ensure works are completed in accordance with approved drawings, municipal standards, and specifications.
Regular liaison with municipal staff, contractors, and internal project teams is required to support successful project delivery.
Prepare erosion and sediment control plans, details, and notes. Prepare detailed engineering drawings using Civil 3D and related software in compliance with municipal drawing standards. Prepare quantity take-offs, cost estimates, and tender-ready contract documents. Prepare Functional Servicing Reports and Stormwater Management Reports in support of development applications. Coordinate design with multidisciplinary consultant teams. Prepare formal responses to approving agencies addressing development engineering comments and coordinate approvals.
Review municipal engineering design drawings and correspondence for land development and capital works projects. Perform field inspections to verify construction complies with approved drawings, specifications, and standards. Provide construction administration services in a consistent, accurate, and timely manner. Prepare inspection reports and progress documentation, including progress payment certifications and Letters of Credit reductions. Administer contractual obligations in accordance with MMCD and the Company’s standard contract documents.
Liaise with clients, municipal staff, contractors, consultants, and the general public throughout design and construction. Attend project meetings and prepare meeting minutes and records. Compile as-built records and review draft and final as-constructed drawings for accuracy and completeness. Provide timely responses to internal and external stakeholders. Perform other related duties as assigned. Knowledge Application of municipal engineering design criteria, standards, and drawing requirements, including Subdivision and Development Control Bylaws.
Knowledge of federal, provincial, and municipal legislation, codes, and bylaws applicable to land development and municipal infrastructure. Application of relevant sections of the Provincial Building Code related to municipal infrastructure on private property. Familiarity with CCDC and MMCD contract documents, including stipulated price and unit price contracts. Experience in the detailed design of municipal infrastructure for public and private sector clients.
