Position: Nickel Plate - Senior Environmental Specialist.

JOB PURPOSE
Barrick Gold Inc. is looking for a Senior Environmental Specialist to join a motivated and high performing team at the closed Nickel Plate Mine near Hedley, BC. This position reports to the Senior Closure Manager and leads implementation of final closure plans in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner that aligns with Barrick’s overall business strategy and goals. The successful candidate brings a strong background in mining environmental management and a broad range of operational, technical and project experience to the team.

The role is based on-site at Nickel Plate Mine with some travel.
Compensation Range: CA $109 - $122K

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Coordinate reclamation and environmental monitoring programs, including water quality, biological, vegetation monitoring activities, ensuring compliance with existing permits, authorizations, and regulatory requirements

• Oversee program resourcing, scheduling, data management, analysis, and reporting to support operation and closure objectives

• Continually review and improve environmental monitoring programs and techniques in alignment with industry standards and best practices

• Provide leadership and oversight to field staff, consultants, and contractors conducting environmental investigations and technical studies.

• Apply knowledge of site-wide environmental performance trends to provide informed input into final closure plans

• Manage technical studies and coordinate multidisciplinary project teams to ensure successful execution of environmental and closure-related initiates

• Develop and deliver presentations to regulators, community groups, First Nations, and internal stakeholders

• Champion Barrick’s safety culture through visible felt leadership and active participation in health and safety programs

• Develop, implement, and maintain site-specific procedures, standards, and employee training programs

• Ensure all incidents, near misses and hazards are reported, investigated and closed out in a timely manner

• Participate in risk identification, assessment, and mitigation planning exercises

• Develop and track project budgets, and provide inputs to financial tracking and reporting processes

• Foster collaborative relationships with Nickel Plate operations staff, Barrick Closure Group personnel, regulatory agencies, and First Nations partners

• Actively participate in First Nations engagement activities and identify opportunities to strengthen long-term partnerships and collaboration

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor or higher in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related discipline

• Professional registration as a Qualified Professional (, , , or immediate eligibility for registration is considered an asset

• Minimum of 10 years relevant experience, preferably across a variety of roles within the mining industry

• Experience with environmental monitoring, data management, and regulatory reporting programs

• Working knowledge of mine closure, mining operations, construction activities, and/or water treatment systems

• Knowledge of British Columbia environmental permitting and regulatory processes an assest

• Experience engaging and consulting First Nations communities is required

• Strong understanding of water quality, hydrogeology, chemistry or geochemistry is considered an asset

• Experience with groundwater and surface water collection and treatment systems, tailings storage facilities, and civil/geotechnical engineering concepts is preferred

• Experience with occupational health and safety systems and applicable safety requirements, including WorkSafeBC and the Health Safety and Reclamation Code regulations.

• Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and Excel is required

• Experience with environmental databases and GIS platforms such as EQuIS and ArcGIS is considered an asset

• Strong leadership, coaching and influencing skills with direct reports, indirect reports, and peers

• Excellent organizational, analytical, problem-solving, written and verbal communication skills

• Possession of a valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record

• Ability and willingness to travel within the US and Canada
