- The candidate will be responsible for planning and designing infrastructure projects that support life-cycle costing and future system requirements, including additions and upgrades to transportation, roadway, water, storm drainage, and sewerage systems, as well as road, curb and gutter improvements, sidewalks, and bike paths/lanes.
- The candidate will be responsible for preparing cost estimates, assessing project feasibility, and recommending systems that provide the best solutions based on current and future parameters.
- The candidate will be responsible for reviewing internal and external engineering reports, designs, and studies related to developer and City infrastructure proposals while ensuring compliance with current bylaws, design standards, and sustainability requirements.
- The candidate will be responsible for managing construction projects by overseeing consultants and contractors, conducting site inspections, approving or denying progress payments, consulting with engineers and construction staff on site modifications, and providing technical field support for in-house projects.
- The candidate will be responsible for drafting RFQ, RFP, and tender documentation to procure consultants and contractors and analyzing tender submissions to determine successful contractor(s).
- The candidate will be responsible for liaising with consultants, contractors, affected external stakeholders, and various City departments on all aspects of assigned projects.
- The candidate will be responsible for responding to, investigating, and resolving complaints from the public, developers, and external groups while providing information related to policies, guidelines, and engineering standards.
- The candidate will be responsible for researching and recommending the use of new and emerging technologies and innovative processes or methods within the engineering design environment.
- The candidate will be responsible for creating, updating, and maintaining design drawings while applying knowledge of engineering standards and design and modeling software, including AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
- The candidate will be responsible for creating and preparing spreadsheets to automate rainfall analysis, pipe flow calculations, database searches, project cost monitoring, and related engineering tasks.
- The candidate must have a Civil Engineering Technology Diploma.
- The candidate must have a valid BC Driver’s License – Class 5.
- The candidate must demonstrate exceptional attention to detail while completing assigned duties.
- The candidate must possess strong computer skills and be proficient in using relevant software applications.
- The candidate will be required to apply innovative thinking to improve processes and work practices.
- The candidate must demonstrate strong project management skills to plan, coordinate, and complete projects successfully.
- The candidate will be required to conduct occasional site inspections by traversing uneven and steep terrain while wearing the required PPE.
