We’re searching for a skilled finance professional to join us for a one-year term. In this role, you’ll contribute to performance (value-for-money) audits of municipal programs and processes, working alongside a dynamic team. Daily tasks closely mirror those of a junior auditor position in a public practice firm, including planning, gathering evidence, analyzing data, and helping draft findings and recommendations.
At the City of Kelowna we have an amazing team of Accountants. This key positioninitiates, implements, reviews, monitors, modifies and provides training for financial reporting and accounting systems. Duties - Union
  • Analyzes accounting and operating procedures and initiates improvements.
  • Reviews, advises and participates in the day to day processing of financial records.
  • Trains and advises other staff and customers on accounting functions, policies and procedures.
  • Provides special projects accounting services requiring coordination with other departments. and agencies, including grants and other recoveries.
  • Prepares complex reconciliations on sub-ledgers and account balances.
  • Directs the work of other financial services staff.
  • Reviews and analyzes various financial reports and initiates corrective action.

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field
  • 4 years of relevant experience with a minimum of 2 years at the Accounting Technician level or higher

Additional Hiring Information This role in the Business Performance & Advisory Services branch involves conducting performance (value-for-money) audits of municipal programs and processes. Ideal candidates will possess strong critical thinking abilities, curiosity, and a process-improvement mindset.

    Testing may be required. If no fully qualified candidates apply, those not fully qualified may be considered for a training opportunity. Training rates will apply.
