Are YOU our next Laboratory Assistant? As a
Laboratory Assistant,you are responsible for the preparation of samples and/or reagents for routine processing, the performance of simple non-interpretive tests under the technical oversight of a Medical Laboratory Technologist as required, and the independent performance of simple non-interpretive tests escalating to a qualified Medical Laboratory Technologist for support and guidance as required. You will also ensure
quality control checks and standards are run as required and participate in all
quality assurance programs and ensure company and Ministry of Health (MOH) guidelines are observed.
Lastly, you will perform routine maintenance of laboratory equipment as appropriate and deal with problems that arise.

How YOU will make a difference:Receive and sort samplesData enter the results into the company’s database as requiredEnsure that all abnormal, critical and STATS are processed as outlined in the department guidelinesEnsure that all samples are properly labeled and identified before testingFollow established protocol for the handling of unsuitable samplesPerform pre-analytic specimen processingOperate instruments following department proceduresPerform simple non-interpretive testing proceduresHandle infectious material following approved procedures while adhering to government regulations (. TDG) as requiredResponsible for the follow-up on missing samples, documentation and results as and when requiredEnsure all inquiries and problems are handled in a courteous and professional mannerEnsure adequate amount of supplies are on hand and that validated reagents and testing kits to be used are in date orderEnsure that quality control checks are performed as required in documented work proceduresResponsible for monitoring quality control guidelines and making appropriate correctionsRefer results for Medical Laboratory Technologist to review and releaseResponsible to follow all relevant pre and/or post analytical quality protocols as described in the company quality assurance manualPerform routine maintenance on laboratory instruments and equipment following department proceduresDocument all maintenance performed, including minor troubleshooting following manufacturer’s instructionsParticipate in the review of procedural documents for accuracy and effectiveness as requiredObserve and report all malfunctions in equipment and maintain all required logbooks for routine equipmentResponsible for disinfecting the work area and equipment on a daily basisStore and discard specimens according to appropriate department procedure manualsWhat YOU bring to the role:You are CSMLS or BCSLS certified and/or a graduate of an MLA program accredited by BCSLS or equivalent awarding body (Canadian).
