Are YOU our next Laboratory Assistant?As a Laboratory Assistant, you are responsible for the preparation of samples and/or reagents for routine processing, the performance of simple non-interpretive tests under the technical oversight of a Medical Laboratory Technologist as required, and the independent performance of simple non-interpretive tests escalating to a qualified Medical Laboratory Technologist for support and guidance as required. You will also ensure quality control checks and standards are run as required and participate in all quality assurance programs andensure company and Ministry of Health (MOH) guidelines are observed.
Lastly, you will perform routine maintenance of laboratoryequipmentas appropriateanddeal with problems that arise.

- Receive and sort samples
- Dataenterthe results intothe company'sdatabase as required
- Ensurethatallabnormal,criticalandSTATSare processedasoutlined inthe department guidelines
- Ensure that all samples are properly labeled and identified before testing
- Followestablishedprotocolforthehandlingofunsuitablesamples
- Perform pre-analytic specimen processing
- Operateinstrumentsfollowingdepartmentprocedures
- Performsimplenon-interpretivetestingprocedures
- Handle infectious material following approved procedures while adhering to government regulations(i.e. TDG) as required
- Responsibleforthe follow-uponmissingsamples,documentationandresultsasandwhen required
- Ensureallinquiries andproblemsare handledinacourteousandprofessionalmanner
- Ensureadequateamountofsuppliesareonhandandthatvalidatedreagentsandtestingkitstobeusedareindateorder
- Ensure that qualitycontrolchecksare performedasrequiredindocumentedworkprocedures
- Responsibleformonitoring qualitycontrolguidelinesand makingappropriatecorrections
- Referresultsfor Medical Laboratory Technologist to review and release
- Responsibletofollowallrelevantpreand/orpostanalyticalqualityprotocolsasdescribedinthecompanyquality assurance manual
- Performroutinemaintenanceon laboratory instruments andequipmentfollowingdepartmentprocedures
- Documentallmaintenanceperformed,includingminortroubleshootingfollowingmanufacturer'sin structions
- Participate in the review of procedural documents for accuracy and effectiveness as required
- Observe andreportallmalfunctions inequipmentandmaintainallrequiredlogbooks for routine equipment
- Responsible for disinfecting the work area and equipment on a daily basis
- Storeanddiscardspecimensaccordingtoappropriatedepartmentproceduremanuals
- You are CSMLS or BCSLS certified and/or a graduate of an MLA program accredited by BCSLS or equivalent awarding body (Canadian).Alternatively, applicants with a Bachelor degree in a related scientific or health discipline, or international MLA or MLT qualification, may also be considered.

- Be extremely detail oriented
- Proficiency in English, both written and verbal, at a level that enables you to communicate instructions, clearly and understandably, to patients
- 25 to 40 words per minute typing speed required
Pay rate: $27.00-$30.75 per hour
