Virtual Intake Specialist - 8 Month Contract

The Director of IT at AKG Canada is a strategic and hands-on leader responsible for all IT operations and initiatives across the country. This role drives the development and execution of AKG Canada’s IT strategy, including the deployment and scaling of emerging technologies such as AI and automation. Working independently, the Director ensures alignment with government and program requirements while collaborating closely with global partners and external consultants to deliver secure, scalable, and forward-thinking technology solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Developing the organisation’s IT vision and translating it into actionable goals – taking a solution focused approach to design and deployment of technical services.
  • Lead systems integration and consolidation across business units.
  • Drive innovation, identifying and recommending new technology solutions, including the incorporation of AI into current and future operational services.
  • Ensure compliance with government, ISO, and data security standards.
  • Manage vendor relationships and outsourced IT service providers.
  • Collaborate with Continuous Improvement teams to identify performance opportunities.
  • Represent IT on the Leadership Team.
  • Direct the sourcing and implementation of new software and hardware.
  • Ensure organisational resilience by developing and maintaining strategies to mitigate risks and ensure continuity of operations during disruptions.
  • Coordinate IT activities to ensure the availability of network services and data.
  • Identify future challenges in the IT landscape and developing mitigation strategies.
  • Oversee departmental budgeting and forecasting within the organisation.
  • Identify security vulnerabilities and eliminate them with strategic solutions.
  • Direct IT staff recruitment and directly supervise a small team.

  • Familiarity with platforms such as Microsoft 365 / Azure technology stack.

  • Project planning and management skills.
  • Proficiency in forecasting, budgeting and strategic use of IT staff.
  • Excellent leadership, prioritization and organisational skills.
  • Ability to communicate to technical and non-technical staff.
  • Experience in public sector outsourcing or regulated environments.
  • Proven track record in IT transformation and integration.
  • Strong understanding of modern tech stacks and cloud platforms.
  • Ability to communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience in providing one-to-one support or coaching and positively supporting professional and/or personal development.
  • Empathetic leadership style with strong relationship-building skills.
  • Experience of working in the employment and skills sector and delivering to specified targets, quality standards and compliance measures is preferred.
  • Experience with AI tools and automation.
  • Exposure to post-acquisition IT integration.
