Interior Health is seeking an experienced and dynamic Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) to join our Mental Health & Substance Use (MHSU) Inpatient Psychiatric Unit team at Penticton Regional Hospital in Penticton, BC. The Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse provides:
- Nursing care to psychiatric patients, both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team
- Enhances quality of life for patients and families; consults, confers, and collaborates with other health care providers
- Demonstrates continuous improvement and evidence‑based practice in nursing practice
- Maintains and advances own clinical competence
- Participates on designated hospital committees/teams and approved research projects as assigned
The RPNs/RNs on the Inpatient Psychiatric Unit work in conjunction with psychiatrists, social workers, occupational therapists, psychologists, and community mental health partners.
The Inpatient Mental Health and Substance Use program assists in‑patients with acute mental health challenges and emphasizes wellness through education on nutrition, exercise, medications, therapy, relapse prevention, and other wellness strategies. The interdisciplinary team collaborates with Community Mental Health and Substance Use programs to ease transition back to the community.
QualificationsWe are looking for a self‑directed, motivated, reliable, and flexible mental‑health‑trained nurse (RN/RPN) who enjoys working in a team environment and has a strong desire to learn. Experience in Mental Health or Substance Use is preferred.
Employment Type& Hours
Casual – not guaranteed hours; 0–37.5 hours per week on an as‑needed basis.
Shifts:
rotating days, evenings, and nights from 07:00 to 19:00, 19:00 to 07:00, 07:00 to 15:00, 15:00 to 23:00, and 23:00 to 07:00.
The 16‑bed Inpatient Psychiatric Unit (IPU) at Penticton Regional Hospital provides Acute Mental Health and Substance Use services for the South Okanagan region. The IPU is a safe, secure, and accessible facility that strives for the highest professional standards of care and collaborates with community and tertiary partners to provide a continuum of care.
The unit is situated in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains, within the beautiful town of Princeton, surrounded by scenic landscapes and opportunities for outdoor activities.
