The City of Penticton is looking for a permanent full-time Community Policing
- Crime Stoppers Coordinator

based in Penticton, B.C.

Reporting to the Community Policing/Victim Services (CPVS) Supervisor, the Community Policing
- Crime Stopper Coordinator
develops, educates and delivers community programs that reduce crime and fear of crime in the community. This position recruits and trains volunteers to assist with the delivery of crime prevention initiatives in the community and works with the local Crime Stopper's board of directors to promote the Crime Stoppers program in the region. The Community Policing/Crime Stopper Coordinator also monitors and delivers crime stopper tips to the police, updates tipsters on the progress of their tips, arranges for the payment of rewards where warranted and works with other agencies and community groups to promote crime prevention and reduction in the community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor Crime Stoppers tip taking software and deliver Crime Stopper tips to police for follow-up. Keep tipsters updated.
  • Provide education on crime prevention initiatives to the public.
  • Monitor crime trends and implement or develop initiatives to address concerns.
  • Work with the local Crime Stoppers Board to promote crime stoppers and keep them updated on issues.
  • Recruit, train and supervise community policing volunteers.

Required Knowledge, Abilities &

Skills:

  • Able to work flexible hours to meet the various demands.
  • Able to multi-task and have good time management.
  • Able to speak and present at public meetings and forums.
  • Team player.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.

Education, Training and

Experience:

  • Completed secondary education and have a minimum of five (5) years' related experience.
  • Valid BC Driver's License, minimum Class 5.
  • Police studies, criminology, crime reduction, police experience considered an asset.
  • Crime Prevention through Environmental Design.
  • Basic Crime Prevention and Crime Reduction Training.
  • Knowledge of Crime Stoppers Program.
  • Worked with or served on a board of directors.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an RCMP Enhanced Reliability Security Clearance

Enhanced Security Clearance Details:

The successful candidate must be able to obtain and maintain Enhanced Reliability Status as a condition of employment, in accordance with the Government of Canada’s Directive on Security Screening. Applicants must provide a complete and verifiable five (5) year history, including residences, employment, education, and other activities, with no unexplained gaps. Periods of six (6) consecutive months or more spent outside Canada must be disclosed and may require additional verification.

Screening may include identity verification, criminal record checks, reference checks, credit check and other background inquiries relevant to the position.
