Nature of Position

The Family Response Worker is part of the Ki-Low-Na Friendship Society’s Children and Family team. The Family Response Worker will meet with Indigenous family member(s) and the Ministry of Children and Family Development to develop specific wellness plans. Tasks and timelines will be identified. Family Response Worker will provide regular updates to the family member and the Ministry of Children and Family Development Family Response Worker through verbal contact, written report and family meetings with the Ministry of Children and Family Development Family Response Worker.

Duties

Work with the family in their home, and other areas of the community.

Engage family members in developing support within the Indigenous community, culturally appropriate activities, and Healing Circles.

Perform assessments for each family referred.

Be responsible in developing long term wellness plans and provide written reports to family member(s) and referral sources and submit to the Society.

Be responsible for reviewing developed family plans and provide written reports at agreed upon review dates. Provide the final review and outcome of family plans in written reports upon completion of direct service with family.

Receive referral of families from the Ministry of Children and Family Development social workers and Ki-Low-Na Friendship Society employees.

Assist family development plans to enhance family strengths and supportive relationships with the use of Sharing Circles.

Act as first point of contact for client family emergencies.

Accompany clients to appointments when required.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Social Work degree

Knowledge of the Child & Community Service Act

Knowledge of the child and/or you in care process

Demonstrate understanding of Status, Non-Status, Metis, Inuit, and On and Off Reserve

Has experience working with members of the urban Indigenous community

Requirements

Must consent to a criminal record check (vulnerable sector)

Full Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and a clean driver’s abstract

Own reliable vehicle

Physical ability to perform the duties of the position

Model or mentor positive cultural influence, knowledge, and historical understanding of Indigenous issues

Education

Bachelor’s Degree (required)

License/Certification

Driving License (required)
