The Program
At Taproot Community Support Services, we’re a 100 percent employee‑owned organization through an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT). The program is anticipated to open in May 2026 at Village House, a spacious newly renovated assisted living home in Kelowna, BC. The home is equipped with modern medical technology and is designed specifically for young adults with high and complex medical needs. Grounded in trauma‑informed practice, Village House promotes a safe, structured, and predictable environment where residents can feel secure and empowered.

The Position
The Overnight Awake Residential Night Worker (ARNW) attends to the health, well‑being, safety and security of residents and the program site at night, and provides general, non‑specific services to clients as required. The ARNW will work alone during overnight hours and must feel comfortable working alone, with support from fellow team members and the On‑Call Manager as needed. The position reports to the Program Manager.

Schedule

Saturday and Sunday, 2300‑0700

In Your Role You Will

Monitor residents through the night and attend to any medical and behavioural needs that arise during the night.

Follow through on direction regarding specific residents left by the day staff.

Notify staff of any major problems or emergencies; respond to emergencies according to established policies and procedures.

Support residents with their morning and evening routines at the beginning and end of shift.

Ensure residents follow house rules; monitor curfew regulations and report to appropriate authorities as required.

Administer medications to residents according to established policy and procedure.

Ensure logbooks and other documentation such as charts and incident reports are complete.

Perform light housekeeping duties such as vacuuming, dusting, emptying garbage, cleaning and laundry; perform minor building maintenance such as changing light bulbs; report maintenance needs to the program manager.

Comply with policies, procedures and values of the agency, and use best practices when supporting residents.

Utilize practices that promote service recipient health, welfare, safety and security; secure the building by arming alarms and locking doors and windows.

Prepare and assist residents in breakfast preparation.

Perform miscellaneous job‑related duties as assigned.

As An Ideal Candidate You Possess

Grade 12. Minimum 6 months related experience.

Minimum of one year recent related experience in a community‑based setting, or a combination of relevant education and experience.

Previous experience with operating a licensed home and trauma‑informed practice.

Training in substance use is an asset.

Familiarity with Housing First, Harm Reduction and Employment First initiatives.

Valid CPR/First Aid, WHMIS, and Food Hygiene and Sanitation certificates.

Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and clean driver’s abstract.

Non‑Violent Physical Crisis Intervention Certificate and Conflict Resolution Certificate.

Positive behavior supports experience.

Must provide a current criminal record check or government screening letter prior to confirmation of employment.
