CMHA Kelowna is currently seeking to hire a full-time, 12-month term position, offering 37.5 hours per week Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 9:00am-5:00pm. Thursday 11am-7pm)

WHO IS AN YOUTH NAVIGATOR?
The Youth Navigator provides outreach and navigation services to vulnerable youth ages 16–24 in the Central Okanagan,both in the community and at satellite sites throughout the region. This position supports youth transitioning to adulthood by helping them overcome barriers, access community resources, and build essential life skills.

Responsibilities include one-on-one support, group facilitation, and deliveringprograms that promote independence and community integration.

WHAT DOES A YOUTH NAVIGATOR DO?

Conductinterviews with participants to identify needs and challenges

Collaborate with health and social service providers to develop tailored case plans

Documentparticipant needs and assist in selecting appropriate programs

Receive and address participantfeedback, inquiries, and complaints

Advocatefor participants in areas such as housing disputes, financial aid, andvolunteer opportunities

Identify and assess potential emergency situations, developing short-term strategies as necessary

Assistparticipants in developing physical, social, emotional, and life skills goal setting, including personal hygiene, meal planning, and financial management

Provide guidance on maintaining appointments and improving interpersonal skills

Identify and inform participants about available social, economic, recreational, and educational resources in the community

Facilitateaccess to necessary services to meet participant needs

Manageadministrative transactions related to participant accounts, petty cash, andrent supplements

Maintain accurate records, including case files, progress reports, and daily logs

Performs other related dutiesas assigned

YOUR STRENGTHS &

EXPERIENCE:

Diplomain Community/Social/Human Services required

Minimum 1 year ofrecent, related experience or a combination of education, training, and relevant experience

Valid Class5 driver’s license

Reliable vehicle andability to travel between facilities and other locations on a frequent basis

Ability to provide aDriver’s Abstract& ICBC Claims & Insurance History

Ability to obtain Rate Class 007 Business Insurance

Criminal Record Check clearance in the Vulnerable Sector

Certificatesin First Aid, CPR and Naloxone considered an asset

Ability to establish and maintain rapport with participants

Communicates effectively, both verbally and in writing

Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team

Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards in all interactions

Demonstrate cultural competence and sensitivity

Ability to maintain consistent professional boundaries

Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel

Experience using case management systems

Ability to analyze and assessparticipant situations and needs critically

Strong organization and prioritization skills

Capacity to observe and recognizechanges in participant behavior and circumstances

Demonstrateconflict resolution and problem-solving abilities

Ability tobe regularly exposed to individuals who are struggling with and/orrecovering from trauma, drug/alcohol use, homelessness, mental health challenges and/or mental illness
