We're Hiring!We are now accepting applications for a for two Child and Youth Care Counsellorto join the SOAR Wrap team in the South Okanagan.
The Child and Youth Care Counsellor (CYCC) will implement service goals designed to support children and youth in care and their families, their foster caregivers, and other out of care caregivers. Through recreation-based programming while using a variety of modalities, they will work to improve the daily functioning, self-regulation skills, life skills, and other assessed needs of youth in care, to support the stability of their family care placements.
While this position is based out of Penticton, services are provided on an outreach basis throughout the South Okanagan (Summerland to Osoyoos).
Hours /Schedule:
- Full-Time, Permanent, 40-hours per week.
- Part-Time, Permanent, 12-hours per week.
Service hours will be delivered on a flexible basis, including some evening and weekend hours as necessary to best support the needs of the clients and program.
Responsibilities:Using an outreach, community-based, family-centered service delivery approach, CYCC’s will:
- Implement individual service goals created by the SOAR Wrap Child, Youth and Family Counsellor.
- Promote healthy relationships between youth-in-care and their caregivers to reduce conflict in the home.
- Provide support to biological parents and caregivers to improve their resiliency, and their ability to manage the youth’s challenging behaviors and complex needs.
- Provide support and encouragement to assist youth in overcoming personal challenges.
- Facilitate youth engagement in pro-social peer relationships and activities.
- Engage youth in recreational activities.
- Provide support and education to youth-in-care to improve their development and functioning in activities of daily living, such as social emotional learning, social skills, school, employment, domestic skills, community / leisure / recreational engagement, mental health and sexual health.
- Collaborating with MCFD Social Workers, service providers and community partners to provide comprehensive goal-focused interventions.
- Implementing and maintaining required case management and clinical records.
- Building relationships and connections within the community to improve service integration.
- Applying culturally safe and agile, trauma informed, relational and person / family-centered modalities.
- Liaise with collateral service providers, contractors, and stakeholders.
- Participate as a member of the Management Team to develop long range and strategic plans, and collaborate, assess and resolve operational issues as they arise.
- Complete administrative duties, including the range of required incident, quality assurance and program reports
Education and Experience:
- A bachelor’s degree in a Social Services or Human Services discipline (ie: BSW, CYC, BA in Psychology etc.) with a minimum of 2-years relevant experience is strongly preferred.
- Candidates with a diploma in Social Services discipline, with a minimum of 3-years experience directly related to working with children and youth may be considered.
- Knowledge and demonstrated understanding of strengths-based family systems and attachment-based support.
- Able to establish trusting relationships with youth and their families.
- Experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Experience working with caregivers and/or families in a therapeutic role.
- Understanding relevant treatment modalities such as Collaborative and Proactive Solutions.

$26.00 - $30.50 per hour based on experience and education.
