Kelso High School is one of nine secondary schools in the Scottish Borders, serving learners aged 11 to 18. In our 2025/26 academic year, the school has an enrolment of 555 learners. Role Purpose

PURPOSE

To enable all young people to become successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors as part of the school team.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Subject to the policies of the school and the education authority the duties of teachers are to perform such tasks as the Head Teacher shall direct having reasonable regard to overall teacher workload related to the following categories:

Teaching assigned S1- S3 classes together with associated preparation and correction

Support with the development of the English BGE curriculum

Assessing, recording and reporting on the work of pupils

Preparing pupils for assessments and assisting with their administration

Providing advice and guidance to pupils on issues related to their education

Promoting and safeguarding the health, welfare and safety of pupils

Working in partnership with parents, support staff and other professionals

Undertaking appropriate and agreed continuing professional development

Participating in issues related to school planning, raising achievement and individual review

Contributing towards good order and the wider needs of the school

This profile is indicative of the nature and level of responsibility associated with the post. It is not exhaustive and the post holder may be required to undertake such other duties as may be required by the Service Director, Children and Young People to meet the needs and responsibility of the Service and the Council.

Note:

The salary/pay grading of all administrative, professional, technical, clerical and manual posts is under review as part of the implementation of the Single Status Agreement covering Scottish Local Authorities. The Single Status Agreement may also result in changes to terms and conditions of employment following negotiation with the trade unions.

Essential

A teaching qualification in English or Primary

Full registration with The General Teaching Council for Scotland or Provisional Registration if Probationary period has not yet been completed.
