Special Education Teacher - Significant Disabilities

Qualifications:

  • Valid Washington State teaching certificate with Special Education Endorsement.
  • Knowledge of current trends in curriculum and instructional techniques.
  • Experience and/or academic preparation in special education.
  • Knowledge and skills in educational technology and the ability to integrate technology into instruction.
  • Skills in diagnostic testing and remediation of learning problems.
  • Experience and/or expertise in behavior management.
  • Ability to adapt curriculum to students' interests and learning styles.
  • Successful experience working with disabled students of various ages/levels.
  • Awareness and appreciation of diversity among individual students and the ability to set appropriate expectations for individual students.
  • Bilingual or multilingual skills are desired.
  • Knowledge of essential learnings and ability to integrate them into the classroom.
  • Ability to use a variety of assessment strategies, including preparing students for state-required testing.
  • Desire to continue professional growth.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in development and implementation of IEPs, FBA's, BIP's, and ERP's for special education students.
  • Plan and implement learning activities for students with varied abilities.
  • Organize programs to provide for individual differences.
  • Evaluate, develop and modify curriculum for individual student needs.
  • Maintain current Crisis Prevention Institute Training.
  • Maintain appropriate student records and continuous measurement data on student progress.
  • Conduct conferences with parents to report student progress towards meeting IEP goals and objectives and progress in core content areas.
  • Cooperate as a team member in staffing, diagnosis, and least restrictive placement of disabled students.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and board policies.
