Bank Dental Nurse (Kendal)

An opportunity to expand the Emergency Dental Service team at our Kendal clinic. We are seeking enthusiastic GDC registered Dental Nurses to provide clinical and clerical support within our busy Emergency Dental Service.

Working pattern: Part‑time. Bank position – sessions offered as cover is needed, mainly evening sessions.

Session times:

  • Weekday evenings:
    Monday–Friday 17:45–21:45
  • Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays 08:15–12:15

Main duties:

  • Provide clinical and clerical support to Trust‑employed Dental Practitioners operating in the Emergency Dental Service.
  • Act as the link between the patient and the clinician.
  • Prepare the surgery for the patient and assist the dentist with emergency dental care.
  • Carry out reception and administrative duties (electronic or paper‑based) within the Emergency Dental Service.

Core skills and attributes:

  • Follow instructions and maintain basic records.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and demonstrate manual dexterity.
  • Under‑pressure working, planning own daily workloads, and teamwork.
  • High level of verbal and written communication.
  • Empathy, professionalism and ability to handle difficult or aggressive patients, including those with compromised physical or mental capacity.
  • Comfortable with computer systems for dental practice administration (e.g. SOEL Health, DENTALLY).
  • Alert, reliable and responsive.
Qualifications
  • National Certificate NEBDN or equivalent (e.g. NVQ Level III Oral Healthcare).
  • Current GDC Registration or enrollment on a training course.
  • Science‑based GCSE (or equivalent).
  • Applied IM & T, ECDL certification.
  • First Aid / Basic Life Support training.
  • Knowledge of the Special Care Dental Service Pathway and Local Protocol for accessing Emergency Care via Dental Direct and Triage system.
Experience & Knowledge
  • Experience working in dental or medical emergencies.
  • Ability to maintain basic records and use IM & T systems for dental administration.
  • Understanding of local dental services.
