This is a full-time, on-site Hospital Optometrist role based at Spa Medica’s Kendal hospital. The Hospital Optometrist will perform comprehensive eye examinations, including refraction, biometry, and clinical assessments, to support cataract, glaucoma, AMD, and other ophthalmic pathways. Responsibilities include interpreting clinical findings, advising on treatment plans in collaboration with ophthalmologists, and contributing to pre-operative and post-operative care. The role involves managing patient flow in clinic, documenting findings accurately in clinical systems, and ensuring high standards of safety, infection control, and governance.

The Hospital Optometrist will participate in multidisciplinary team discussions, support patient education and counselling, and contribute to continuous service improvement and clinical audit activities.

• Professional clinical skills in hospital optometry, including comprehensive eye examinations, refraction, biometry, and assessment of cataract, glaucoma, AMD and other common eye conditions.
• Strong diagnostic and decision-making abilities, with competence in interpreting clinical data, using diagnostic equipment, and escalating or referring appropriately within a multidisciplinary team.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain clinical information clearly, provide reassuring patient education, and collaborate effectively with ophthalmologists, nurses, and administrative colleagues.
• Organizational and time-management skills to manage busy clinics, maintain accurate clinical records, and follow clinical governance, safety, and infection control protocols.
• GOC registration as an Optometrist (or equivalent) and eligibility to work in the UK; independent prescribing or hospital optometry experience is beneficial.
