An opportunity has become available to join the Kendal District Nurses as a registered nurse on a permanent basis. This is a supportive team that prides itself on delivering a high standard of person-centred care to the residents of Kendal and surrounding villages.
We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic team player that shares the same passion and drive to care for people in their own homes to a high standard and wants to develop their knowledge in community care.
The post is to be worked over a 7 day working week, with both full-time and part-time hours considered.
The post requires a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle, please ensure this is indicated on your application form.
Main duties of the jobThe post holder will work as a registered Nurse within Community Services, accountable for providing evidence-based, holistic nursing care of patients.
You will be expected to support the Sister/Team Leader in leading the team, supervising, directing staff and delegating workload according to skills of the staff within the team.
The Kendal District Nurse team is a busy team comprising of both registered and clinical support workers. We regularly have students to support and develop.
About usWe operate from three main hospitals – Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, daycase and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Qualifications- Registered Nurse (on the relevant part of the register for the post)
- Mentoring and assessing qualification or working towards or equivalent
- Post registration clinical course appropriate to area or willingness to undertake further training relevant to the post — and to use and maintain these skills in the delivery of care
- ECDL or equivalent
- Evidence of recent professional development
- Experience of establishing effective communication
- Working within a multidisciplinary team
- Experience of implementing change
- Previous experience within designated area
- Experience of mentoring and assessing members of the team
- Experience as shift team leader
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
