The Facilities Specialist role is to ensure a safe, secure, and well-functioning campus environment. Responsibilities include monitoring access, conducting security patrols, responding to incidents and emergencies, opening, closing and securing campus buildings, and supporting building maintenance, landscaping, and environmental health and safety compliance. The position emphasizes reliable operations and professional, customer-focused assistance to help students, staff, and visitors thrive.

• Seattle Clinic (Bastyr Center for Natural Health): initially supports the Seattle Clinic; in December 2025 the clinic relocates to the Kenmore University Campus and the position will be based in Kenmore.
• Kenmore Campus: based at the Kenmore University Campus and will remain at this location.

Note:

Although each position has a primary location, you may be asked to work at another location to support a project or provide shift coverage.

• Campus Safety and Security:
  • Conduct security patrols across the university campus or clinic location
  • Monitor and respond to security cameras and alarms
  • Support access management, including key distribution, badge access, and lockout assistance
  • Respond to and report security incidents
  • Ensure buildings are secured at the end of assigned shifts (doors/windows locked, lights off)
• Facility Maintenance and Support:
  • Perform basic building systems maintenance and repairs
  • Assist with grounds keeping and landscaping tasks
  • Conduct routine inspections of facilities and equipment
  • Report major maintenance issues to specialized staff
  • Assist with office moves and clinic moves as requested
• Emergency Response:
  • Respond to campus emergencies and coordinate with community emergency services as required
  • Assist in coordinating evacuation procedures when necessary
  • Participate in emergency drills and training
  • Maintain knowledge of emergency equipment (fire extinguishers, AEDs, radios, first aid kits) and ensure readiness for use
• Environmental Health and Safety:
  • Help maintain compliance with health and safety regulations
  • Identify and report potential safety hazards
  • Assist in implementing sustainability initiatives
• Customer Service:
  • Provide directions and assistance to students, staff, and visitors
  • Respond to inquiries regarding campus facilities and security
  • Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor
• Other responsibilities as assigned

• High school diploma or equivalent; associate’s degree preferred
• 2+ years of experience in facilities maintenance, security, or related field
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
• Physical ability to walk, stand for extended periods, and lift up to 50 lbs
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Basic computer proficiency
• Availability to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays

• Experience in a higher education setting
• Knowledge of basic HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems
• Familiarity with security and surveillance systems
• First Aid and CPR certification may be obtained while on the job
