Educational Technician - Pre K Special Education - Kennebunk Elementary School
As an Educational Technician – Pre K Special Education, you will deliver measurable results in enhancing the learning environment for students by supporting classroom teachers in achieving the goals and objectives of the school program.
Qualifications- Maine Educational Technician I, II or III requirements.
- Experience or coursework in early childhood education or working with children with special needs is preferred.
- Love what you do and working in an environment supporting teachers to help students achieve learning goals.
- Flexibility and creative problem solving.
- Strong communication, organization and interpersonal skills: calmness, kindness, warm and sincere demeanor.
- Assist in the preparation and implementation of school wide activities.
- Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information.
- Participate in in-service training provided through the district to improve knowledge and skills needed to perform job responsibilities.
- Participate in staff meetings as needed.
- Demonstrate ability to work as part of a team and assist with building duties and routine tasks as assigned by the principal and supervising teachers.
- Prepare and organize materials for instruction in collaboration with teachers and supervisors.
- Assist teachers in ensuring that students’ personal, safety and well being needs are met and serve as the chief source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
- Carry out behavioral programs and expectations for students in the absence of the teacher (recess, lunch, small group work, etc.).
- Assist principal and office staff with clerical tasks.
- Understanding and/or willingness to learn about students with special needs.
- Sensitivity to students, parents, team and building needs.
- Work one to one and small groups of students to implement curriculum, instruction and assessments.
- Assist with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, field trips, etc.
- Assist students with lunch, snack, and clean up routines.
- Alert teachers to any problems or special information about an individual student.
- Change agent: able to persuade staff to try new things and use evidence to persuade and celebrate wins.
- Flexibility: accept evolving priorities and adapt quickly as new priorities emerge.
- Collaborative nature: give, receive and incorporate feedback while standing your ground.
- Resourceful: optimize available resources and tools to enhance impact.
- Highly responsive: flexible and able to adjust when faced with unexpected, real-time problems.
- Active listener: strong active listening; read body language and pick up on nuances.
