Purpose and Summary

As a Staff Pharmacist you are at the forefront of delivering our purpose, modeling our values, and providing authentic care for patients. You support the Pharmacy Manager in leading the pharmacy team, ensure the safe and accurate prescription fulfillment, and oversee pharmacy operations, including performance measures, inventory, compliance, and patient experience.

Responsibilities
  • Manage and improve patient health through safe dispensing, counseling, and immunization practices.
  • Lead the pharmacy as a proxy during bench shifts without overlap and coach the team to enhance pharmacy performance.
  • Assume the Pharmacy Manager’s day‑to‑day duties when serving as the primary pharmacist‑on‑duty.
  • Maintain safe prescription fulfillment by following workflow procedures and implementing safety guardrails.
  • Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy, collaborating with the healthcare team, and resolving insurance or medication issues.
  • Offer and deliver immunizations, and support Pharmacy Technicians to learn immunization skills.
  • Manage inventory effectively, especially cold chain products.
  • Ensure compliance with state Board of Pharmacy regulations and address concerns with Pharmacy Manager or Rx DL promptly.
  • Support scheduling flexibility and write the pharmacy schedule as directed.
  • Maintain clinical skills through required trainings, CMEs, and continuous learning.
  • Provide pharmacist‑delivered clinical care such as testing and prescribing services where permissible.
  • Comply with all federal and state laws, professional standards, CVS Health policies, controlled substance dispensing, recordkeeping, privacy, and security.
Required Qualifications
  • Active Pharmacist License in the state where the Store is located.
  • Active National Provider Identifier (NPI).
  • Not on the DEA Excluded Parties list.
Essential Functions
  • Regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
  • Complete required training within the designated timeframe.
  • Attention and Focus:
    • Concentrate on tasks over a period of time.
    • Pivot quickly from one task to another to meet patient and business needs.
    • Confirm prescription information and label accuracy, ensuring patient safety.
  • Customer Service and Team Orientation:
    • Actively look for ways to help people in a friendly manner.
    • Notice and understand patients’ reactions and respond appropriately.
  • Communication

    Skills:
    • Use verbal and written communication effectively with patients and colleagues.
    • Practice active listening and give full attention to others, asking questions as appropriate.
  • Mathematical Reasoning:
    • Use math to solve problems, such as determining total tablets, day’s supply, and additional bottles needed.
  • Issue Resolution:
    • Identify challenging interactions and choose the best course of action among options.
  • Physical Demands:
    • Be mobile and remain upright for extended periods.
    • Lift, scan, and bag items; reach overhead and use arms and hands.
    • Perform tasks involving visual acuity and occasional lifting up to 20 lbs.
    • Express ideas verbally and receive detailed information orally.
  • Any additional tasks as directed by Supervisor or Manager.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1–2 years of related pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service experience.
  • Ability to work at other locations across the market as business needs require.
