Pay or shift range: $40 USD to $46 USD. The estimated range is the budgeted amount for this position. Final offers are based on various factors, including skill set, experience, location, qualifications and other job-related reasons.
DescriptionJob Summary
The Lead Field Tech supports our Field Services Department by leading field crews in the assembly, installation, alignment, and repair of complex rotating equipment at customer sites. This role ensures work quality, provides technical guidance, and mentors developing mechanics while maintaining strong customer communication and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead field staff performing inspections, maintenance, repairs, and installations to Conhagen and customer standards.
- Assign daily tasks based on project priorities and verify work accuracy and safety.
- Perform and confirm dimensional checks, runouts, alignments, seal installation, and component inspections.
- Troubleshoot and repair pumps, turbines, compressors, gearboxes, motors, blowers, and other rotating equipment.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical documents.
- Provide on-the-job training and mentorship to junior mechanics.
- Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and hoists (location-dependent).
- Ensure accurate documentation, proper handling of parts, and photo inspections.
- Support the Field Services Supervisor with team coordination and evaluations.
- Promote and enforce Conhagen safety practices, HSE requirements, and site housekeeping.
- Communicate effectively with customers, field teams, and leadership.
Requirements
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Authorization to work in the U.S.; able to obtain a TWIC card.
- Strong leadership abilities and proven safe work history.
- Minimum 8-10 years experience with pumps, compressors, turbines, blowers, gearboxes, and similar rotating equipment.
- Skilled in troubleshooting, precision measurement, and mechanical repair.
- Knowledge of ANSI/API standards for refinery/industrial equipment.
- Detail-oriented, analytical, and able to work with limited supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Vocational training in mechanics, machining, welding, or related fields.
- Electrical exposure is a plus.
- OSHA-30 and forklift certifications preferred.
Work Conditions
- Work at customer plants and shop environments (indoor/outdoor).
- Travel required; extended standing or stationary work common.
- PPE required (safety glasses, hard hat, gloves, steel-toe boots, hearing protection).
- Exposure to confined spaces and moderate noise.
- Must attend monthly safety meetings and required training.
- Overtime may be required depending on branch workload.
- Uniforms and tool-purchase program provided; mileage reimbursement varies by location.
Physical Requirements
- Lift up to 50 lbs.; frequent bending, kneeling, climbing, and maneuvering around equipment.
- Adequate vision, depth perception, and hand-eye coordination.
- Ability to safely move throughout shop or plant areas.
